Alternative Energy Resources

By investing more in research and development to provide the needed technologies for harnessing alternative Energy resources, we maybe able to avoid a future ruined by global warming. There's an enormous amount of various natural resources available for developing into alternative power sources. By converting to these alternative sources of energy we can relinquish our reliance on outdated traditional electric grids and our dependence on fossil fuel.

Wind Energy Technologies

Wind power is the cleanest of the alternative energy resources with zero pollution emission. Over the last couple of decades, residential wind turbines continue to be developed into smaller, more efficient turbines using less wind while generating much more energy. Wind energy technologies have simplified the generators allowing the do-it-yourself people the option of building the turbines at home and, cost has been steadily dropping over the last decade. Wind farms are commonly seen in most developed nations and environmental consideration is being given to where they can be placed to avoid jeopardizing migratory birds as well as community and environmental issues.

Solar Power Technology

The most popular of the alternative energy resources is absolutely solar power. Generating solar electricity involves the harnessing of solar radiation from sun light with photovoltaic cells. The technology is complex but the process is simple. Solar panels are made up of many photovoltaic cells. Solar panels generate electricity by collecting radiation from the sun via a process of displacing neutrons from protons to create a flow of electrons that is converted to electricity. Solar power is just as clean as wind power emitting zero pollution.

Ocean Wave Tidal Power

Tidal Power Technologies

Some Governments and major investors are developing ocean wave power as an essential part of the grid power infrastructure. Lagoon (Swansea Bay) PLC is developing the ambitious Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon project which is projected to supply 155,000 homes in the Swansea Bay area with renewable power saving the equivalent of 236,000 tonnes of carbon emission per year. Ocean wave energy is the dominant of the alternative energy resources but the less utilized resource; it doesn't produce any pollution and it's a known fact that the waves of the oceans can produce all of the energy the planet would ever need.

Hydroelectric Power Technology

Hydroelectric power is another one of the alternative energy resources that's been in use for awhile but not without controversial issues. The technology requires the setting up of large dams and the problem is where best to place them. It is very rear the damming of a river will not and does not affect the ecology of the river system, and in most cases disrupting irreplaceable habitats. Recently, small, localized hydroelectric generators are being set up successfully in places where the impact is far less damaging to the ecosystems. Hydroelectric power is a competitive generator of alternative electricity that is much cleaner than the traditional grid power.

Geothermal technologies

The advancement of Geothermal technologies is still in the developmental stages to adequately harness energy from the earth's hot molten core which lies a few kilometres under the earth's surface. Geothermal energy is generated by heating water via the natural heat radiating from the earth's molten core. The heated water produces steam which can then be used to drive large turbines for generating electricity. Geothermal energy is one of the greatest sources of alternative energy resources that's in abundance but in need of more research and development to effectively tap into this vast energy resource.

Biomass Energy Tecnologies

Biomass energy is a method of converting waste or crops into energy, even wood chips and wood cellulose are used. Biomass energy also requires or utilizes what is known as biomass harvesting of crops for energy conversion. Crops such a sugarcane, wheat, corn, strawberries, etc. require plenty of water and large parcels of land to grow, which is noted for causing deforestation and the harvesting usually stresses most ecosystems. A byproduct of biomass, Ethanol is a substitute for gasoline created from the harvesting but is mired with controversial and environmental issues. Biomass energy is a carbonaceous example of small scale pollution, deforestation and generally an expensive endeavour to maintain. There's debate with regards to whether the fuel produced from biomass processing will ever become truly economical and practical for extraction. However, technology for the extraction of biomass energy is continually being improved, updated and refined to meet the challenges of correcting environmental disruptions.

Nuclear Power Technology

Nuclear Energy Technology

Nuclear energy uses the process of nuclear fission which is created in atomic energy plants. Nuclear energy has become a stable source of grid power in most developing and developed nations. The electricity produced from nuclear energy is of the highest degree and nuclear fission is a very efficient way of generating vast amounts of energy. Although the nuclear wast that atomic energy gives off is relatively small compared to the power it harnesses, concerns about neutralizing and storing the radioactive wast have never been fully address. Radioactive material takes hundreds of years to break down before it can be harmlessly assimilated back into the environment. Nuclear power is one of the most efficient alternative energy resources but the stigma of nuclear disasters and the lifespan of radioactive materials will always render it an unsafe resource.
