Automatic Avatar Across the Web
I found a great site which automatically displays your Avatar and URL link in across the web, when you make comments. This free service is called Gravatar.com
My Experiences with the Service
I have tried out and it worked like a charm. I made some comments and the avatar and URL link, display name I provided with Gravatar.com worked flawlessly. I also checked some old comments I made with the email address I provided to Gravatar, and it displayed my avatar I provided with Gravatar. However, the URL I provided at those old posts was different than the Gravater URL and those links did not change. Beside that though, Gravatar worked great for me
Providing your e-mail
When you sign up, your signup email will become your primary email with them, however in your members area you can change that. I have added a number of additional emails also, and I don’t think their is a limit to the number of emails you can connect your your Gravatar avatar. Each of the email addresses you provide, you will have to confirm, through a confirmation link sent to that respective email.
Uploading the Photo
When you upload your picture that you will want as your avatar across the Internet, that picture will automatically be croped, however you can move around and change the crop area. Your uploaded picture will also be automatically resized for proper Internet use size. Also you will have to set the rating of the picture. Choosing the G rating is highly recommended, as choosing more adult ratings will result in your avatar not displayed on many blogs.
Providing URL and Display Name
You can provide your comment display name and URL link in the “Edit My Profile” area, which can be found in the roll down menu of “My Account”. On these pages, you can also change many other things like, the sites and blogs you want your Gravatar avatar to be displayed (in the “Verified Services submenu”).
Currently Gravatar accepts the following sites:
