Best 24 Inch PC Monitor 2014
Why Get a New Monitor?
Did you know that a large monitor can improve your overall productivity while working? In a recent study by productivity501.com it was shown that a larger monitor continued to increase productivity up to 24 inches.
Upgrading your computer's monitor can be a lot less expensive than you might think it would be. Recent improvements in LED technology have allowed prices to come down substantially.
I recently read a post on how to calculate your computer's energy cost to run each year. While a monitor's price is a bit more reasonable you can save up to 50% of your energy costs by switching to LED backlighting.
What to Look for When Choosing a Computer Monitor for Your Home or Business:
Before you go buy a new computer monitor here's a few things to take into consideration:
Understanding your Monitor's Resolution
When a monitor has a listed resolution that simply means how many pixels horizontally it has and vertically. Multiply these numbers together and you get the total number of pixels for your display. Most modern monitors come with a 1920 x 1080p resolution which is considered full high definition. While this is enough for most, photo editors sometimes require additional pixels to work with.
IPS Displays for Photo and Video Editors
Many IPS displays come with as many as 2560 x 1440 pixels. These displays are considerably more crisp than your average display and offer better color accuracy because of the amount of bits they produce for each applicable color; red, green, and blue. Many of today's high-end displays are 30 bit which means they can accurately produce up to 1 billion colors.
If I were you I wouldn't get too hung up on this term. Many manufacturers state their own version of this in the way of a dynamic contrast ratio. If you really would like to see how your monitor looks or feels, then the best bet is to do it in person.
Response time is basically how fast your monitor can go from one end of the color spectrum to the other or, in other words, the deepest black to the whitest white. Having a high response time can produce blurred motion when watching videos or playing games. If you don't do either of those things with your monitor, then this particular specification isn't that important. Most TN panel monitors come with a response time of 5ms or less, which is more than fine.
Why I like the VX2450WM-LED 24 Inch Computer Monitor
One of the best 24 inch monitors you'll come across this year is the Viewsonic VX2450WM-LED which at around $180 is a really good deal. There's nothing complicated or extremely sleek about the design, but it is a full high definition 1920 x 1080p resolution monitor with internal speakers.
The Viewsonic VX2450WM-LED can also be mounted by using the 100mm x 100mm VESA compliant mounting holes in the back.
Top Rated 24 Inch Computer Monitor 2014
The picture quality is impressive with a 20,000,000:1 MEGA Contrast Ratio. Deeper blacks for this particular model are made by Viewsonic's latest LED technology which completely dims the backlights giving you more accurate color reproduction than earlier models.
Overall I feel that the VX2450WM-LED gives you the best bang for your buck; however, if you're looking for a monitor to watch movies or do gaming on, then you might want to consider Viewsonic's VX2453MH-LED which gives you a faster response time for smoother pictures during all of the action. The VX2453MH-LED also features a newly designed bookstand featured that allows you to til back the monitor in order to give you an angle that's tilted up.
If there's one con to the VX2453MH-LED it's that Viewsonic removed the mounting holes on the back of this new monitor; however, if you don't plan on mounting the monitor, then this is a solid choice at around $200.
Another really good monitor you should take a look at this year is this Asus model. For under $140 it's a steal and Asus continues to put out a quality product that's affordable.
