Best PC Gaming Ram and Memory 2013

If you plan on playing the latest games, then having enough ram is crucial for in-game performance. Gaming rigs without enough ram are prone to crashing and with the inexpensive price of ram there's really no reason for anyone to not have a little extra on hand. The more the better, right?

I want to mention that it's important to understand the capabilities of your motherboard before rushing in to purchasing the top-of-the-line gaming ram.

Many gamers rush in to purchasing the highest speed ram they can purchase without knowing if their motherboard will run it at that speed. If it's not supported, then it most likely will down clock to the next closest supported speed. Another obstacle you can run into is your motherboard not having the proper voltage support for your ram. Here's some information about 1155, 1156, and 1366 socket motherboards, but you might even need to go to the manufacturer's webpage to be able to find all the specifications you need to look at.

Plan Ahead

If you plan ahead and know how much ram you'll need for your rig, then you'll probably be able to get a better overall value and make sure that you get the right kit. For example my personal motherboard holds up to 32GB ram. Even though I typically play new release games I have no plans for needing more than 16GB of ram on this particular build ever. I saved a little bit of money by going with 4x4GB of DDR3 versus purchasing 8x2 and then potentially upgrading in the future..

Our choice for best bang-for-your-buck gaming ram is the Corsair XMS3 line of gaming ram. It's specifically built for performance and gaming, and it won't break you wallet. Although I update this module frequently be sure to check the ram prices to the right for the top overall value. In general, if it's Corsair, Crucial, G.Skill, Kingston, or Patriot memory I'll go for whatever is cheapest (when comparing apples to apples).

What Gamers are saying about this Gaming Ram Kit:

"This RAM is a great value. I slipped it in my Asus motherboard, fired up the computer and was ready to go. All 6 gigs were recognized instantly, and works plenty fast."

"No installation problems. Has been operating well. For the money, you can't beat this deal."

"I got these Sims about a month ago. So far I'm a happy camper. No issues, no freezes and YES I'm O/C @4.5GHz. Just pure action. "

"Full disclosure: I don't actually run this at 1600MHz -- I overclocked all my computers throughout college but just didn't feel like it when I put this one together. So, because the RAM defaults to the normal high-speed JEDEC standard at 1.5V, and you need to manually set it to 1.65V and 1600MHz, I didn't. Just be aware of this if you want to buy this (or, last I checked, any other) memory for its higher-than-normal clock. Anyway, my computer's been running well for about 8 months now and the RAM tested out fine in memtest86."

*Tip - If you are going to overclock, think about using some heat spreaders to avoid any potential crashes.
