Best Mini Laptop 2014

Updated on September 16, 2014

Over time mini laptops have become more and more popular. They are portable, affordable and extremely practical.

Mini laptops can be divided into netbooks and small 14 inch laptops. Netbooks are smaller, cheaper and less powerful than the small laptops. In best mini laptop 2014 I will shortly review 2 popular models of each type.

The biggest adjustment you have to make when starting to use a mini laptop is the small keyboard. However once you get use to the keyboard you really will love the portability of your mini laptop.

ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1215N-PU17-BK 12.1-Inch Netbook

The 1215N-PU17-BK is the newest and most powerful netbook available. It's power is such that it lies somewhere between a traditional netbook and a middle of the range laptop. While still being the size of a netbook.

The biggest hiccup with the previous 1201N was its short battery life. The 1215N model has definitely improved on this by doubling it. For such a small but and well presented computer it certainly has what it takes. The screen is the right size with great resolution. There is slight backlight bleed, but this is barely noticeable. Playing games on this netbook is good but not terrific.

The 1215N-PU17-BK has Gigabit Ethernet, that allows you to transfer files quickly. This is a good feature as it has no DVD drive. The new style keyboard takes a little getting used to, but it is usable.

There is stacks of bloatware preloaded onto the computer, which some may like and some might think is overkill. If the latter is the case it is easy enough to uninstall the preloaded software.

ASUS Eee PC 1015PED

Compared previous netbook the 1015PED is more like a traditional netbook. Cheaper and less powerful. It's worth noting that the 1015PED sells better than the 1215N.

This little laptop has great battery life, which is a very important feature in a netbook. It's battery life goes on for up to 10 hours with normal usage. The 1015PED boots up very quickly for a netbook. The screen and keypad are as good as they can be for a computer of this size. The matt screen is great when used out of doors this, together with the matt finish on the case, make it much easier to keep clean than other models.

Windows 7 Starter is pre-installed. Installation and downloads work well on this notebook but one thing to watch out for are the drivers, as they tend not to be sorted by this version making it important to see that the latest ones are downloaded.

This machine works well considering it only has 1GB of memory, but it can easily be upgraded to 2 GB. All in all this is a really handy little laptop that will let you go online without any problems.

Toshiba Satellite L645-S4104 14.0-Inch Laptop

The Toshiba Satellite L645-S4104 is an extremely light and compact computer, it weighs just 5lbs. It is a great solution for students or travelers looking for an ultra portable machine.

The Toshiba Satellite L645-S4104 high tech power saving Eco Utility helps reduce power consumption, making it an extremely eco-smart machine.

It has an 8x DVD drive that can read and write to DVDs and CDs. This a feature that you won't get with a netbook.

The Toshiba Satellite L645-S4104 has a high speed built in WiFi card that makes connecting to the internet very easy.

Toshiba really know their stuff when it comes to giving the user what they need on a portable computer.

Acer Aspire TimelineX

If you compare this Acer to the Toshiba above it has a more powerful chip and graphics card. This makes the Acer more expensive. If you are going to be using resource hungry software like computer games on the laptop you should get the Acer.

If you look at the picture the Aspire has no NumPad. This allows the keys to be slightly larger.

Battery life on this computer is good and this machine does not get as hot as others of the same price range when run for long periods of time. Apart from the lack of ports that some have found annoying the plus factors of this lightweight computer far outweigh the minuses.

I hope you enjoyed best mini laptop 2014. You might also like to check out wireless n router review 2014.
