Best Portable Hard Drive 2016

Portable hard drives are the most convenient way to carry large amounts of data around with you. At 1 TB the larger portable drives dwarf the capacity of their closest competition, USB pen drives which only have 1/10 the capacity.

In best portable hard drive 2016 we will review 3 drives:

  • Toshiba Canvio - The best selling and most compact portable hard drive.
  • Seagate FreeAgent GoFlez - The portable drive that comes in the most different disk sizes.
  • LaCie - The most rugged and damage resistant option.

If you click through to the drives' Amazon pages you will see that each drive comes in a number of disk sizes, which effects the product's price.

Toshiba Canvio

The Canvio comes in 500 GB, 750 GB and 1 TB. The drive's dimensions are 3.1 x 0.5 x 4.7 inches and it weighs 9.6 ounces. For my money the Canvio is the best looking portable drive.

Canvio is not only great way to store data. It is also a very reliable way to transfer data. The hard drive has an internal dampening system for shock protection. It also has a layer of textured rubber all along the edges for a more robust design. The slim layout means that it is easy to carry around, you can even fit it in a pocket.

The other impressive quality of this product is the rate of data transfer. The data transfer rate is up to 95 MB/sec. This makes it x2 faster than the previous Toshiba portable drive. The reason for this is the USB 3.0 cable ( which is backwardly compatible with USB 2.0 ports ). You have to keep the drive complete still when transfering data. If you move it the cable sometimes falls out of the port. In my opinion the extra speed is worth it though.

This hard drive is preloaded with a software that helps you to backup your computer's data. This makes the whole process simpler. It also increases the data protection and reliability.

The new Toshiba Canvio incorporates the best technology and workmanship to ensure high class performance.

Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex

The Seagate FreeAgent Go comes in 320 GB, 500 GB, 750GB and 1 TB. The drive is available in black, blue and silver. The drive's dimensions are 3.2 x 0.9 x 4.7 inches and it weighs 9.9 ounces.

The Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex case is not only stylish, but quite sturdy as well. The other immediately notable feature is how easy this device is to use. The drive is simply plug and play. So you can use the device immediately without any hassle. Saving the data is also very simple you just drag and drop the files. The fast data transfer rate further enhances the ease of use. The device comes with a stand to make plugging it in, at home, easier.

Even though you are required to install the accompanying software for basic use doing so does improve the functionality. With the software installed you can automatically backup data and password protect your data.

The FreeAgent GoFlex connects to the PC with a normal USB cable so you are not required to carry any special cable.

The device comes with a 2 year warranty on the drive itself and 1 year on the other parts.

A reliable portable hard drive that offers increased data protection.

LaCie

The LaCie's deminsions are 3.5 x 1.0 x 5.7 inches and it weighs 8.82 ounces.

The first noticeable thing about the drive is the design. The design in not just good to look at but also provides extreme protection. The aluminum case is scratch resistant. The rubber padded edges are great shock absorber. All this protection increases the durability of the hard drive. It also minimizes the possibility of data loss through physical stress on the drive, while traveling.

This device works well with older OS versions in both PC and Mac machines. The USB and Fire Wire ports allow greater versatility, than other portable hard drives.

The drive comes with a 3 year warranty.

This is a portable drive of choice for those who travel a lot. It is also the data storage product I would recommend, if you switch between Macs and PCs. All in all a robust and versatile product.

Portable hard drives carry essential data and it is important to protect them. This portable drive case from Logic offers just this protection. The use of case stops any external physical damage to the drive.

This case is thoughtfully designed. The outer body of the case is strong and feels durable. The inside is very well padded. An essential requirement especially while traveling.

A compulsory requirement for those who know the importance of data protection.
