Chatrooms and Social Network Groups: Friend or Foe? Are Some Sites and Chat Rooms Wrong?

I'm sure you've been in a chat room at least once, maybe twice. Perhaps you spend your entire life in chat rooms. Whatever the preference, chat rooms have pros and cons.

A good thing about chat rooms is the fact that you can meet other people from different walks of life. There is more to the world than what lies beyond your town. You could meet a celebrity (slim chance but who knows!), a chef or perhaps even a business professional. Some people say "Oh but chat rooms are for kids." Wrong! Chat rooms are for everyone. There are specific rooms for groups of people but not everyone obeys to that title which brings me to my next point.

Online predators are real and they are out there, lurking in the shadows. You cannot always believe what they say. After all, i was chatting to a person who was meant to be a female and turned out to be a 30 something year old male with stubble and a history to go with it. Now i am not saying every person out there is a predator but what i am enforcing is that one must be cautious about giving out personal information.

Chat rooms are also a place for fantasy interaction. Confused? It's similar to role playing and can involve anything from the light, innocent interaction to the more sensual, explicit things fantasy has to offer. Role playing is seen as a new form of interaction. You can join a chat room and discover various things that you never knew before or you can sit back and watch the interaction. Either way, you can engage in a form of roleplay.

People have often said that married people or people that are involved should not go into chat rooms. I say, why not? It's not illegal to enter a chat room and talk to people IF you want to make friends. When it becomes flirtatous, one should think twice and leave the room. A friend of mine wanted to see if her boyfriend was unfaithful so i logged into the chat site he uses and proved to her that he had a roving eye. Not all people are like that, it's a one case scenario. As far as trust goes, i think one should trust their partner and know that there's always an open line of communication.

In a nutshell, chatrooms are a great place to meet new people and make friends, but come with a word of caution as there are online predators out there. Don't say it won't happen to me because you might just be surprized.

I myself had to learn from my mistakes on chatrooms and social networking sites. Eg: Family chat "The chatroom that is safe and anyone can join in" (This site is also known for rapists, criminals, and false identity.) Or Tagged. I myself put a false age and picture so that I could protect myself from the cons of social networking-Only to realise that what I was now doing was making myself one of them. And also through some messages I made the stupid mistake of giving out my personal information and even false information. The internet is a very wonderful but very dangerous place. I agree with Cisco Pixie. Be very cautious. Or you might do something you regret like me.

sometimes one must learn a lesson the hard way before it can be learned properly. Thank you for commenting
