New Point and Shoot Digital Cameras 2013

In this hub we'll rate and feature the best digital cameras for 2013 in 3 categories: Top Rated, Bestselling, and new releases for 2013. To start, here is our list of the top 5 best rated pocket cameras for 2013.

Each year I'm more and more amazed at not only the quality of new point and shoot digital cameras, but the price points as well. Bargain shoppers may find that if they buy the model just below the new release model, they can get an amazing pocket camera for a fraction of the price. I do the same shopping trick with computers. The trick is to find the value right above the third or fourth generation model.

Point and Shoot Cameras - Next Generation Models

When you look at these next generation models your first instinct may be to think they've come down in quality because they have lowered the amount megapixels. What you may not know is that this was intentional. Both Canon and Panasonic have done this to allow more space for the MP they have. This creates more spectacular images by creating higher sensitivity and saturation while minimizing noise generation (blur and camera shake). This coupled with wider angles makes these top rated pocket cameras extremely versatile at a much higher quality than other cameras with similar MP.

Compact Digital Cameras

Convenience and Quality:

Compact digital cameras are more than just for novice photographers because the best digital camera you can have is the one that's on you when you have a chance to take that perfect shot. Several of my photographer buddies have mentioned that they take a compact digital camera with them when they are playing sports or just want to casually take pictures without taking their more bulky cameras with them. Having a second camera is ideal in this situation. The results have been amazing! With the newer Canon PowerShot S95, they are getting pictures they aren't even afraid of putting in their online portfolio. It's amazing how far compact digital cameras have come in just a couple of years.

Pocket Cameras 2013 - Canon Powershot S95

Canon Powershot S95 Review

Features: The S95 is super slim, ultra-intelligent and has everything that a serious photographer would want. A Bright f/2.0 Wide-angle lens, professional-style control ring, and the new for compact digital cameras is the Hybrid IS for blur-free shooting. Other features include 720p HD video with streo sound, 10.0 megapixel CCD sensor, Digic 4 image processor, higher Iso speed that can be set up to 12,800, 3.8x Optical Zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer, and a 28mm Wide-Angle Lens.

Why I love the Canon Powershot S95 Pocket Camera:

This is a digital camera that really fits in your pocket. Because it's not the first in the series, Canon has worked out all of the kinks, even fixing the control dial and function selection ring that many consumers complained about in the S90. The nearly flawless design allows amazing flexibility and even better pictures. With the S95 you'll see that camera shake has been noticeably been reduced and sharpness and clarity have been increased and at under $400, the price point can't be beat. The Canon Powershot S95 Compact digital camera is also ranked second in the bestsellers category.

Where to Buy Your Digital Camera:

Overall, Amazon has the best prices on point and shoot digital cameras. This is because alongside Amazon are thousand of wholesalers trying to compete in price point. This creates the type of competition that allows buyers to have a leg up.

Bestselling of 2011 - 2012 - Nikon Coolpix S3000

Nikon Coolpix S3000

Features:

The Coolpix S3000 has 12.0 effective megapixels, a 4x optical glass lens, and fits right in to your pocket. It features Nikon's EXPEED image processing alongside its 4-way image stabilization to create incredible pictures even during sunny days. It also has a "smart portrait system" that lets you have more smiling faces and smooth skin tones without too much blinking or red-eye.

Why I recommend it:

Around the $100 mark the Nikon Coolpix S3000 can't be beat. It's sleek metallic design is appealing to adults and teenagers alike and it you can personalize it with 1 of 6 colors. I also love the easy-to-use Li-ion rechargeable battery and charger.

What's in the Box

  • EN-EL10 Rechargeable Li-ion Battery
  • EH-68P AC Adapter/Charger
  • UC-E6 USB Cable
  • EG-CP14 Audio Video Cable
  • AN-CP19 Strap

What Consumer's are saying:

"It is a gorgeous piece of machinery; cute and cuddly and shiny and impressive. I'm afraid my girlfriend is going to try to steal it.... I may have to buy her one to preemptively stop that from happening... it is a point-and-shoot, which means that you don't have direct control over shutter speed, aperture, etc. But, you do have a dozen or so "scene modes" including Beach, Museum, Sunset, Panorama, Action, etc. These are very handy. I haven't tried them all yet, but they seem to be well designed."

I own a Powershot S95. I love everything about it except one small thing. When the lens is extended, it somehow blocks the flash and creates a dark patch at the bottom right corner of the picture.

Nice hub by the way!
