DIR – Display a list of files in a directory

Without options the directory command lists the names and sizes of all files stored on a particular drive. For example:

If you want to know your network configuration like your computer IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, just type ipconfigfrom command prompt. It’s a simple way to troubleshoot your internet connection. It also allows some control overactive TCP/IP connections. For Example:

CHKDSK – Check disk for errors

To fix bad sectors and other errors of your disk we use this command. It is a powerful tool to display file specification and check volume for problems. For example:

C:\> chkdsk – Check C drive for errors.

To run an application from the command prompt, we need to type the application name from command prompt. For example, if we want to launch calculator from the command prompt. We need to type calc using command line.
