Eliminating Blanks Between PDF's on Adobe Pro X - Introdcution

I recently upgraded to Adobe Acrobat Pro X. For the most part I like it but I'm still trying to work out the bugs and my own slow learning curve.One frustrating change I've noticed from previous Adobe versions is that when I scan multiple pages with print on one side, Pro X automatically inserts a blank PDF page between each printed PDF page. In other words, if I run three documents with print on one-side through the scanner, I'll get my 3 documents with print converted to PDF but there will also be a blank page between each printed page.

Before I save the PDF file, I then have to go back and delete the blank pages. It is kind of a pain.

It took me a little while but I figured out how to get rid of the blank scanned pages on Adobe Acrobat Pro X. This fix might not work for everyone but it worked for me. The blanks are no longer automatically inserted.

What I Use For Scanning (and, Unfortunately, Getting Blanks)

I use Adobe Acrobat Pro X as my PC computer's scanning software. I use a Fujitsu Fi-6130 desk top scanner for the actual scanning of pages. I mention this just to keep you in the loop as to where I am coming from for the purposes of this article. Even if you are using a different set up, this fix might work for you. Keep reading to find out :-)

Possible Reason for the Empty PDF Pages

It appears that the blank PDF pages are the blank-side of the documents I am scanning. Adobe X Pro defaults to scanning both sides of the page. Initially I tried just changing from a two-sided scan to a one-sided scan but this did not stop the blanks in between. I had to take the fix one step further.

Step 1 - Open Acrobat

Open Adobe Acrobat Pro X on your computer as you normally would.

Step 2 - The Create Command

Click "Create" left corner of screen

Step 3 - PDF From Scanner

-In drop down menu select "PDF From Scanner"

-Don't select a color (black and white, color, etc). You'll be tempted to select a color, but don't do it. Skip that.

-Instead look for "Custom Scan" in the same menu and click it.

OK, Let's Eliminate Those Blank Adobe Pages

-Just below the "scanner" field you'll see the "sides" field. Change from "Both Sides" to "Front Side"

OK, you are not done yet. Stop here and you'll still get empty pages between PDF's with print on it. Keep reading.

The Very Important Options Button

-Click on the "Options" button which, as of the date this post was published, is located in upper the right hand corner of the window

-A "Scanner Options" window will appear. The "User Interface" field probably reads "Hide Scanner's Native Interface" change this so it reads "Show Scanner's Native Interface"

-Then click the "Scan Button"

The TWAIN Driver Window Appears

The TWAIN driver screen will appear. If you were using the previous version of Adobe you might recognize this screen well. This is the screen where you can make modifications to the color, contrast, darkness, etc of your PDF before it is scanned. If you need to make changes to the appearance of your PDF go ahead and do it , if not continue......

Scan it!

Click The "Scan" Button on the TWAIN driver screen.

Documents will scan and you won't have any more blanks between pages. The empty PDF pages will not appear.

That's It!

I've run into other scanning issues as well on older editions of Adobe Acrobat. One problem I've had before is when the 'create' button is missing. When you can't click the create button / icon you can't select the 'from scanner' option and, of course, that is a big barrier to being able to scan. Thank you for your help! I use an HP Scanjet 5590 and was having the same problem. The HP software is really bad, so I was using Abode Acrobat X. It kept scanning both sides no matter what I did. So when I found your page, I tried the "Show Scanner's Native Interface" under custom scan. And lo and behold, HP had a setting checked to automatically scan both sides from the feeder. I unchecked it, and now the Adobe Acrobat X will only scan the front side under any preset! Maybe your Fujitsu software was also inferring in the same way?

Does this tip permanently remove blank pages from future scans or does this need to be done for each scan job?
