Hide Facebook Age - Change FB Birthday So Year Is Deleted

Updated on January 15, 2015

Hiding Your Age On Facebook - Introduction

You can tell a lot about a person by what they make visible on Facebook. You can tell relationship status, place of employment, education, schools attended, places visited, friends people have, etc. You can pretty much name it and people post it.

Of course, most of these things can be hidden from public view on Facebook. A lot of people post information about themselves and forget that they can hide it.

This article will teach you how to hide your age on Facebook. We'll look at removing your date of birth as well as hiding your birthday completely from view.

Why Would I Want to Conceal My Age on Facebook?

There are a number of reasons why you might not be comfortable with having your age posted on Facebook. Here are a few I can think of:

Finding a Job - Do you want your prospective employer to know your age? Maybe you are applying for a "young person's" job and you look young but are not young at all. Prospective employers use social network sites like Facebook to find information about people they are interviewing. Eventually, they'll find out how old you are, but if you are in a situation where age can hurt you, it would be a good idea to hide it as long as possible. Give yourself a chance.

Fraud - I might be a little paranoid here but just about every form I fill out requires my birthday. Someone trying to steal my identity will have one extra piece of the puzzle if they know my birthday. A birth date alone won't suffice to steal my identity but it does bring them one step closer.

Personal Comfort - Some people just want to keep their age to themselves. Different people have different comfort levels regarding their age. If you don't like your age, you don't have to reveal it on Facebook if you don't want to.

I'm sure there are other reasons to conceal your age on Facebook, these are just a few. Now, let's get down to removing your age on FB.

Two Ways to Edit Your Facebook Birthday

There are two ways to edit your birthday information on Facebook, maybe more. but I'll stick with these two. Both ways are very similar.

One way is through "Privacy Settings"

The other way is through "Account settings"

We'll look at both.....

Edit Via Privacy Settings - Step 1

Look to the upper right corner of your Facebook screen. See where it says "Home" ? See the drop down arrow next to "Home"

Click the drop down arrow

Hide Birth Date Via Privacy Settings - Step 2

The drop down menu will appear. Select "Privacy Settings"

A new window will open

Facebook Privacy Settings Window - Part 3

Now you are in the Facebook "Privacy Settings" window. This is a little odd the way they do this simply because I think it should be more obvious. You will see a tiny text link in the top paragraph called "Editing Your Timeline Info"

Click "Editing Your Timeline Info"

Basic Info Edit Window - Part 4

The "Basic Info" edit window will automatically open. (If it doesn't, look in the "Basic Info" and access it by clicking edit)

Below your birthdate there is a box with a drop down arrow. Click the drop down arrow and select either:

"Show Only Month and Day on My Timeline" - This will allow everyone to still see your birthday but not know your age since your year of birth will not be visible to anyone. Great for getting all those birthday wall-wishes but keeping how old you are private.

"Don't Show My Birthday on My Timeline" - How old you are will be hidden from view.

Save it and you're done.

The Other Way to Hide How Old You Are on FB - Account Settings

Find the word "Home" in the upper right corner of your Facebook screen and click the drop down arrow.

Hide Age Via Account Settings - Step 2

Now look all the way to the left side of the screen. Look for the text link "Your Timeline" It is a little bit buried inside a small paragraph but it is there.

Go ahead and click "Your Timeline"

Basic Info Block Edit - Step 3

Look for the block or section called "Basic Info"

Inside that block is an "Edit" button.

Click the "Edit" button

Get Rid of Your Year of Birth or Birthday Completely - Step 4

Find your birthday in the window appears. Just below you birthday is a box with a drop down arrow. Click the drop down arrow and select on of the two following options:

"Show Only Month and Day on My Timeline" - Cool option as everyone will still send you those birthday accolades on your special day but will not know what your age is since the year will be hidden.

"Don't Show My Birthday on My Timeline" - Maximum age privacy. Your entire birthday will be removed from everyone's view.

Click save and your done.

I Want to Keep Someone From Seeing Me On Facebook

Facebook has a lot of underutilized tools to help you control your privacy and what others see about your publicly. If you want to keep someone from seeing your profile / timeline, your mutual friends and from finding you in the search box, you can block them no problem.

The caveat to this is that you won't be able to see them on FB either but if you really want to be invisible to this person you likely don't want to be looking at their mug any more than you want them to be able to see yours.

I wrote an article on how to hide from someone on FB and linked it here. Check it out.
