Yahoo; Did you know

Yahoo was founded by the electrical engineers Jerry Yang and David Filo. It was initially a directory of other websites.
Yahoo Messenger was first released in March 9th, 1985 and was originally called Yahoo Pager.
Yahoo closed down their chat-rooms because it was estimated that over 75% of it's users were bots (robots)
Yahoo is an acronym for Yet Another Hierarchical Official Oracle.

Yahoo wont tell you about this!

Have you ever wanted to know what's going on inside or outside your home while you're away? If so, you're in luck, In just a few minutes you'll be able to remotely view your home, or workplace from any location using just just Yahoo Messenger! No need to purchase separate remote monitoring software! or trying to configure all the complicated settings when Yahoo can do this for you, and using the same principles, it works on Skype and other messenger software.

What Is Yahoo Messenger? For those that don't know...

Yahoo Messenger is just one of the many free instant messenger programs available online. Save hundreds of dollars a year using your Yahoo Messenger to connect with all your friends: Play games, share files with anyone anywhere in the world. You can decide who sees you online with stealth settings - Share photos and files in real-time. If your contacts are not online, send them a message which will be received as soon as they sign-in, this can eliminate the need to email everyone. Stay connected with your IM friends from your PC and mobile phone, and web cam chat too. To use this program to connect with family and friends, then they will need to also have the same program installed.

What Is An Instant Messenger Program?

Instant messaging (IM) is a small program you download and install to communicate with another person (or people) via their PC from another location - There are many Instant Messaging programs available ALL free! - Talk to family, co-workers and friends anywhere in the world. Talk, via, microphone or Internet phone and video conference with your web-cam. - See and hear each other in real-time. If you already use Yahoo messenger, you're halfway there! If you don't have Yahoo Messenger you can Install the latest version Yahoo Messenger. (which will open new window)

System requirements: Microsoft Windows XP, Vista. Other versions: Mac, Web, Mobile. Some previous versions will still work if you don't want to install the latest version!

How Can I Remotely View/monitor My Home While I'm Away?

OK, So You have Yahoo Messenger installed and a user name... Now click Sign-out and now click Get a new Yahoo ID. Create a new ID. Once you have created a new ID- Sign-in with your new ID- Click the Contacts tab to add new contact- Now Add your previous ID as your new contact- You will now see your other ID in your friends list waiting for approval (from you). Now sign out and resign in with your other ID and confirm contact request. So you should now have two IDs.

Next! Now click on the Messenger tab and select Preferences, then select Web-cam Broadcast. You will now see a window like the "Image below", Choose, Always allow the following people to view my web-cam, Now click Edit. there you will see your other ID. Click on the name and add & OK & apply. Now do the same with your other ID. Setting up your web-cam. 1st, Sign into Yahoo Messenger with either ID. In the main Yahoo window, click on messenger then My web-cam - (If this is your first time you have installed yahoo, you will need to follow the instructions to add your cam!) Once your web-cam is on, point it towards whatever you want to monitor to remotely view web-cam while away: (or on another home PC to test, sign-in with your ID, once signed in you will see your other ID signed in as your new contact. Right Click on the name and choose More Actions - Choose View Web-cam....... Job Done:)

Yahoo System Requirements: Internet Explorer 6.0 or later, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Opera; Flash 9.0 or later - Other versions: Windows, Mac and Mobile.

System requirements: Internet Explorer 6.0 or later, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Opera, Flash 9.0 or later - Other versions: Windows, Mac and Mobile.

Using Yahoo to remotely monitor your home is not recommended for security purposes alone. Having good security, alarms and locks to stop anyone breaking into your home in the first place is much more important than wasting cash on CCTV. It's all about peace of mind and what best suits your needs.

If you have Yahoo installed, you may be interested in a very good Yahoo chat client called YahELite. This program has much more features including incredibly better features and much more security.

LATEST UPDATE: Since I wrote this article; Yahoo now requires you to have two email accounts and two mobile phone numbers to create another Yahoo ID. This now used to verify new users.

Парикмахерша смеется. Дело в том, что это органика. А органика зачастую более интересна и более сильна, чем синтетические вещества. Кстати, именно поэтому ароматы из чистой амбры или железы каборги очень дорогие.

GG 6 years ago

or is there any way that if a person sign in to yahoo messanger the cam connects its self by default...????

GG 6 years ago

hi there..... i knew this since very long time..... but i m wondering if a person forget to turn on the option "My Webcam" and then one try's to use this web cam on the other pc..... what would be the trick for that.....????

Ei 6 years ago

This is a nice idea, but unfortunately it needs the webcam window to already be opened. It's not much easier than going to the 2nd computer and sending an invitation to the 1st computer.

Hi compu-smart, How you doing? Only a compu-smart hacker knows smart ideas like this one. I didn't knew you were that smart.....hahaha just kidding.

This is the difference between regular use & creative use. Everyday people like me & others use Webcams to chat & view live videos. I never thought of using Yahoo messenger or others to monitor my home. Although idea is same when you are doing a video chat with some one they can see you & you can see them too.

It is very good idea but the only problem is people who have DSL internet connection can use this. In addition, your computer has to be permanently connected to the internet plus computer plug into power too. Therefore, it will be costly experiment.

Now I know you are really a compu-smart excellent hub & thanks for sharing your ideas.

Clever! I wonder if I could create 3 more accounts and have am accessible webcam in every room - since i have desktop in the office - a laptop wherever - and an old mac in the bedroom -hmmm, that could be fun (each computer has a unique ip, Ithink it will work!)

awesome idea - although hopefully I will never get in the habit of looking at it - taht could be addictive, and i will finally answer the question of what my dog does while im away!

Hi compu-smart, this is such a smart idea. A lot of businesses can save fortune, instead of buying those pricey monitoring devices...I would want to try this at home.

Great hub!

Compu-Smart,

The new technologies are so amazing. If this Web-Cam captures images at the Speed of Light, then I might be able to keep an eye on Fast Eddie.

Thanks, Barbie Perkins

Fascinating, compu-smart. You haven't been in touch with Big Brother, have you? This hub, along with your other hubs on Live Streaming Videos and How to See Your House Live, are giving me a good education on this subject. But what I'd like to know is who is watching me while I'm watching everyone and everything else?

Eddie Perkins 7 years ago

Very interesting.  I learn something new everyday. Now I can keep an eye on Barbie to make sure she is working while I'm resting.:)

Thank you. ~ eddie
