How to Add your RSS Feed to Your Facebook Page

UPDATE 12-3-11 RSS Feature Removed

I am sorry to announce that Facebook has removed the RSS Feed feature. I recommend you contact Facebook to complain and request that it be restored.

Here is the Facebook Help page that confirms the removal of this feature.
http://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=206051139465982#My-blog-isn't-importing-to-Facebook.

http://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=277347965620183#Why-can-I-no-longer-import-blog-posts-from-my-website-to-my-Page's-notes?

(As of 8-9-12, this feature is still not available and no alternative has been created.)

I am leaving the rest of this article in tact and will periodically check with Facebook to see if the feature is restored.

In the meantime you will need to manually post links to your blog posts or Hubpages articles on your Facebook wall or notes section. Alternately, Hubpages does have a Share feature that makes it easy to share your articles on your Facebook account however it is still a manual process. Many blogging platforms also have easy to add Facebook share features.

Adding an RSS feed to your Facebook Page

As a Hubber, I found that I wanted to share my hubs with my friends on Facebook. But how to do it easily? I'm a very busy person and did not want the tedious task of remembering to post a separate link to each HUB I write. Well, I searched high and low through the forums and help text on Facebook and HubPages. Two hours later and I found one tiny little link someone had posted in a forum that answered all my questions.

If you would like each HUB you write to automatically appear with a short description and link on your Wall in Facebook, click on "My Profile" at the top of HubPages. Under your photo you will see a little orange button that says "Subscribe to RSS Feed." Right click on it and select "Copy Shortcut" from the menu. Then go to:

http://www.facebook.com/editnotes.php

Place your cursor in the block on that Facebook page. Hold the Ctrl button and press the letter "V". This will paste the shortcut you just copied into the block. Click import.

That's it, you're done. Now every time your create and publish a new HUB, your Facebook Wall will automatically be updated.

By the way, this process will work with your blog too. Just copy the URL of your blog feed instead of the URL for your HubPages feeds and insert it on the Facebook page above.

The only drawback is that Facebook will only allow you to import one feed, so if you write a blog and on HubPages, you will need to choose.

Finally, this is not permanent. If at some point in the future you no longer want to import that RSS feed to Facebook, go to your Notes page in Facebook. Toward the right you will see a box titled "Notes Settings". Click "Edit Import Settings" On the next page, you will see a button that says "Stop Importing". Click it and Facebook will stop importing that RSS feed. You can then leave it empty or insert a new feed to import.

Subdomain Migration and your Facebook Feed

August 2011, Hubpages and decided to move all hubs to a user based subdomain. If you currently have your RSS Feed imported by Facebook you should do your migration manually rather than waiting for the automated migration planned by Hubpages. If you take no action, when your subdomain is migrated Facebook will re-import your entire feed. This import will flood your Facebook wall with a separate post for each Hub you have. In addition, it will duplicate posts on your Notes page with links to the old and new URLS.

At minimum, I recommend you manually transfer your Hubs to the subdomain late at night. This will have your posts flood Facebook overnight and hopefully make a minimal impact on your wall and the news feeds of your friends. After the migration, you should probably consider cleaning up your notes page and removing the links to old URLS.

For a more involved solution, you can remove your RSS feed from Facebook by clicking on the link above. Then transfer your to your subdomain in Hubpages. Then come back here and re-add your feed to Facebook. I think this will avoid Facebook from re-importing the entire feed. It should just pick up the feed from that point forward. (If anyone tries this, please comment below with your results.) This solution will leave your old notes with links to the old URLS. Since all URLS will be automatically redirected, this is ok.

Thanks, Happy Hubber. I, too, spent loads of time trying to find out how to share my hubs on Facebook. I'm going to add my RSS feed right now. Great hub!

ConnieFoggles 7 years ago

I actually was searching on how to turn this feature off because when you click on any links in Facebook using this, you stay in Facebook. I wasn't getting any traffic to my blog. Thanks so much for this info. I've bookmarked in case FB decides to make a change later on.

I tried this hoping everyone would be able to link to my hubs from doing it. All it does is post it as a note. People can't link to my hubpages with it. So what's the point of this?

It obviously tells them a hub has been created, but most people are lazy, if they can't link from it directly they will just move on to the next thing on their list.

Any suggestions? did I do something wrong?

John 6 years ago

I have the same problem as the last commentator in that when a user clicks on the blog entry which has been posted on my wall they go to my facebook note page. I would like them when they click on the link to go straight to my website. I know that once you are on the notes page there is a link to the original item, but nobody (well, very few people) is going to click on this after they've read the article.

Any ideas how to fix this. Perhaps there is another facebook app which would work better. If anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful!

There's websites that will allow you to condense multiple RSS feeds into one. I used one for a Local News twitter I once ran. I wish I could remember it...there's many out there if you just search. Then you can have your blog, your hubpages, and whatever else you want (twitter maybe).

Posts to the Notes tab, not the Wall, I believe. Is there a way for notes to automatically publish to the Wall?

Happy Hubber profile image

Happy Hubber 6 years ago from Pennsylvania, USA Author

Yes this technique posts to the notes tab. I believe that when a new posts appears on your notes it also appears on your wall, but I could be mistaken, it's been a long time since I wrote this article. Hub Pages also has the Twitter and Facebook buttons at the top of every Hub pages and your own edit Hub page that also allows you to share your Hubs, but you'll have to remember to do it for each and every Hub you post where as my technique above is automatic.

Niklas 6 years ago

Hi

Does this work for you guys? I am able to import my feed from my blog to my facebook fan site wall manually but it never updates. Have same problem on multiple fan sites...

Btw the notes that are created will indeed be posted on your wall if you choose to in the settings of notes.

I just read your article, or least tried to. It was very hard to follow. Fortunately I'ved used Feedburner so I was already familiar with it. I would not go anywhere near calling my method above "outdated". You have offered a legitimate alternative that to a more advanced user might offer a few extra features, but it is far less straightforward and too complex for some people to bother with.

Happy Hubber profile image

Happy Hubber 5 years ago from Pennsylvania, USA Author

Jeremey, it looks like Facebook changed the URL slightly, but did not take down the page at the old URL. I've updated the link above. I've tried adding the RSS feed in my Facebook using the old link and got your error, and the new link and it worked fine. Please try again and let me know if it worked for you too.

To be honest I've never paid much attention to how quickly it posts to Facebook. However, a lot of RSS readers pull the feed on a set timeframe. Facebook might update every hour? I don't really know, but it's an idea.

@Happy Hubber, you're right...

Here below the answer for importing blog to FB fan page:

Why can I no longer import posts from my website to my Page's notes?

We want you to connect with your fans in the most effective ways possible. That's why as of September 30th you'll no longer be able to automatically import posts from your website to your Page notes. The best way to get people to interact with your content is to give them insight into the links you share on your Wall by adding personal comments and responding to feedback from fans.

We're focused on creating even better tools for Pages. Look for announcements soon.

I'm sorry but RSS grafitti was once a great app but it no longer works, you can't add feeds, you can't add a source. It's probably facebook that is to blame but its time to move on and find a replacement....

I tried several times today to add a feed to facebook for my website http://www.shockingtshirts.com/ but failed each time. I have also had the same failure on recent attempts I can also not delete anything either, everything comes with an error that has no meaning, like error 3 or something.!
