How to Design a Globe in Photoshop
After you have drawn a sphere and added gradient overlay, you can draw vertical and horizontal lines inside the sphere. These lines will give an impression of longitudes and latitudes on the globe. To insert these lines, first of all you have to create a pattern of lines. You also need a photo of world map.
To make a Pattern, create a new document with transparent background. Make sure the document is very small.
Select Pencil tool and draw a vertical line on one edge of the document, and then draw horizontal line, from the corner of the vertical line, on the bottom of the document.
Go to Edit→Define Pattern and hit OK.
Now return to the sphere document. Go to the sphere layer.
Hold Ctrl and left click and select the area.
Create a new layer. Go to Edit→Fill or simply click Shift F5. Select Patten and choose the pattern you have created. Make sure you have unchecked Preserve Transparency. Hit OK.
Go to Filter→Distort→Spherize
Double click the pattern layer. A dialogue box will appear, select Bevel and Emboss.
Press Ctrl Shift E to merge the layers
Open the world map photo. Click Ctrl A to select and Ctrl C to copy. Paste this photo (Ctrl V) in your sphere document.
Go to Filter→Distort→Spherize. Set Amount to 100.
