Source

It can be so confusing to start a blog especially if there is no one who is guiding you and you have no clue whatsoever.

At first, you wonder what you'll be blogging about. You question yourself about the technical skills required to run a blog.

Will people like my blog? Will I succeed to make money blogging? These are some of the questions that you'll be asking yourself.

When I was about to start my blog seven years ago, I was in the same situation like you. I asked myself many questions. I completely knew nothing about blogging. But I had stumbled upon a webpage that was offering a blogging course. This led me to search for more information about blogging on the search engine.

What I can tell you today is that there is so much information about blogging. The articles you read from other bloggers are helpful as far as learning how to blog and making money blogging is concerned.

Such bloggers are willingly sharing their experience they have had blogging. You should read such articles since you'll know the mistakes you should avoid while blogging and also learn how you can become a better blogger.

Should You Believe the So Called Gurus?

However, if you're not careful, you may end up falling in the hands of swindlers.

I warn you because there are some people who claim to be gurus. They'll promise to start a blog for you that will earn you quick riches.

I had bought some of their programs only later on to discover that I had fallen in their trap. It is so easy to believe in the fallacy that you can make a lot of money online without having to do anything.

The gurus start a blog for you and thereafter you don't have to do anything else since their programs will help you to make a lot of money like $10,000 a day.

There is no way you can start a blog and make a lot of money without you having to do anything. You have to work on your blog in order for you to make money online. No program will generate income for your blog without you working.

Always keep in mind that it takes time for you to start making money online through your blog.

You can't start a blog today and tomorrow it starts making money for you. That rarely happens.

Knowing that you have to work hard and also it takes time for you to make money blogging will make you to start your journey of blogging with right attitude. You won't believe in the so called gurus who are only after your money (selling to you programs that won't help you in any way to make money blogging.)

When you start a blog with the right attitude, you'll be able to identify what blogging courses will be of value to you from the ones that are just scams.

You see, these gurus know how to play with someone's mind. I'm not telling you shouldn't buy blogging programs when you start a blog but I'm only informing you that not all blogging programs you come across are genuine.

I'm helping you so that you don't waste not only your money but also your time in buying blogging programs that won’t add any value to your blog.

1.) To Make Money

This is the main reason why most people start a blog. By choosing a profitable topic for your blog, you're able to sell your own product(s) or other people's products online. You'll also make money online from your blog through advertisements displayed on your blog.

You can make money online by creating blogs and selling them to those who are willing to buy them.

It is upon you to choose an appropriate way of monetizing your blog depending on the niche market you're targeting.

There are so many ways to monetize a blog.

2.) Online Tutorial Courses

There are many people who are using blogs to offer tutorial courses online. For example, there are blogs like copyblogger.com that are teaching people how to write content that sells.

If you're passionate about a particular field of specialization and you're a qualified expert who is experienced, you can start a blog and use it to teach others online who are interested to learn about that field.

3.) Marketing Purposes

Blogs are used by companies and individuals to market products online and also to get feedback from customers.

Blogs make it easy to capture personal contacts of customers (e-mail list building.)

A blog is a powerful marketing tool and you shouldn't ignore it if you have an offline business.

Start a blog and use it to market your offline business online, it will make it possible for you to reach potential customers both locally and internationally.

If for example you own a car hire business and you start a blog to use it in marketing your business, then you should publish content on your blog about hiring a car.

Potential customers who don't know your business will come to know about it when they search for car hire services on the search engines like Google. Your blog will get listed on the result pages found by the search engines.

A blog is one of the techniques used to optimize a static website in the search engines. If you have a website that is not ranking high in the search engines especially Google, you can start a blog and link it to your website so that you improve your website's search engine ranking.

4.) Sharing Information

The purpose of sharing information with others has led people to start their own blogs. There are people who are willing to share with others their personal life experience so that they help others who are in similar situation such as sickness, divorce etc.

5.) Avoiding Boredom

I'm a happy blogger because I use my time properly. I don't bother myself with thoughts on what to do and as such, I'm always busy blogging.

Blogging has enabled me to say goodbye to boredom forever. You can start a blog as a way of keeping yourself busy. Who knows you might end up making a living from blogging!

For example, "Drummond started her blog The Pioneer Woman in 2006 out of boredom, but diligently posted daily on the mundane pleasures of country life. She quickly gained fans with her quirky, confessional writing and beautifully photographed down-home recipes. By 2012, she was getting more than 23 million page views a month, had published two cookbooks and a memoir, and launched a new cooking show on the Food Network"-[source: howstuffworks]

That is how blogging can change someone's life forever.

6.) Improving Writing Skills

My first blog post I published had so many grammar mistakes. When I reflect back to the days I got started blogging compared to today, I appreciate how greatly I have improved my writing skills.

Those who start a blog and keep on blogging frequently usually become better writers. They express themselves better. Their skills to communicate with people keep on improving as they continue blogging.

Learning institutions are creating blogs for educational purposes. Some of the schools start a blog and get their students blogging so that they improve their writing skills.

I challenge you to start a blog so that you use it to horn your communication skills.

7.) Attracting Employers

There are some people who start a blog so as to attract prospective employers. For example, a student who has just completed MBA in human resource management can attract potential employers by creating a blog and blogging on subjects such as how to manage employees, how to recruit and select qualified employees, how to motivate employees, how to compensate employees, how to conduct job evaluation, how to improve the working conditions, how to manage human resources information systems etc.

You can also start a blog for the purpose of attracting prospective employers so that you increase your possibility of employment.

"Blogging is a great way to show your talents and interests to prospective employers, while adding an edge to your resume. If you blog consistently it shows your dedication, passions and creativity-all of which are key attributes employers look for in job candidates."-Lauren Conrad

8.) Nurture a Hobby

There are individuals who start a blog so that they use it to nurture a hobby. There are bloggers who started a blog as a hobby not knowing that their blogging activities will eventually turn out to be a full-time job.

An example of a blogger who started a blog as a hobby is Tina, "I started Carrots ‘N’ Cake to keep me on track with eating well and exercising in preparation for my upcoming wedding. It was a personal food and fitness journal, and I really had no intention of anyone ever reading it. I definitely didn’t think that it would become such a huge part of my life—let alone my job! But, it did, and I’m ever grateful for finding a career that I love so much."- [source: Carrotsncake]

You can also start a blog to nurture your hobby. However, you might think you're nurturing a hobby only later on to realize it's actually a business opportunity for you to make money online.

This is all I had to tell you for today. I have really told you a lot, didn't I? Now it is your turn to express your views on how to start a blog or what you know about blogging in the comments section below.
