Certainly, it is far enough from the Pioneer or Numark high-end turntables, but the inexpensive Discover DJ USB controller offered by ION may be a start for anyone looking to string together pieces of music at a small party.

Autonomous, ION Discover DJ's dual mixing deck enables one to mix two MP3 tracks simultaneously, and with the plates, to scratch. The device interfaces with a USB connector and comes with the MixVibes Cross LE software, a reference in this area.

With Discover DJ, you'll be able to use your MP3 and other digital audio files, including your iTunes library. The console has a crossfader to move your feed from left to right and vice versa, a cue key to return in an instant at a previously selected part of a piece, a tempo-synchronization button between the left and right plates, and knobs for audio settings. There are also two independent volume knobs. Of course, there are also buttons to change the pitch (to vary the playback speed of a title).

The Discover DJ is self powered through the USB port.

It is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and MacOS 7.

To get started, you simply

  1. load the included MixVibes Cross LE software
  2. plug in the ION Discover DJ controller

and you're ready. It is easy to use and it is the perfect way to learn how to DJ even if you've never done it before.
