About The Blog

I purchased a domain and paid for hosting for 3 years for my Freelance Writing Services. I maintained it for almost 4 years. I got sick of paying $100+ per year for the service (It wasn't making any money and I hardly got traffic, mostly due to lack of marketing and promotion.)

So after I cancelled it, I decided to create a new Blog website on the WordPress Platform. It has its ups and downs but it is very cheap and very easy to use. I feel like I am starting over.

Why Start A Blog?

Approaching 4 years this coming summer as a HubPages Hubber, I have read from many Hubbers that have found success with a personal or business blog. Since most blog services and platforms are free for basic set-up, I decided to try WordPress. So far, I like it.

Like HubPages you can post photos and other capsules/modules to your blog, but the down side is that you really can't monetize your site. You can use links from Amazon but you can not use Google AdSense.

How To Use A Blog?

How should you use a blog? That depends on what you want to accomplish with your blog. I chose to add a personal touch to my blog because my HubPages are relatively neutral and non-personal, although a few are personal.

People use blogs and blogging services for different reasons:

  • Promote their websites
  • Promote their products and business
  • Vent about injustice and politics
  • Be funny
  • Be racy
  • Talk about personal experiences
  • Dealing with Mental/Physical Illness
  • The list goes on and on...

Whatever reason someone chooses to start a blog, they often find that they can venture onto different avenues. Blogging has no limits. The best part is that you never know if you will be a success or not. Some people blog for years and have a small following (often times other bloggers) and are content with their blog. Other Bloggers find success and get picked up by national syndicates (like HuffPost) and do very well for themselves. It all starts with the first word...

How Do I get People To Read My Blog?

Blogging is an art that has been around for many years. Originally, back in the day, blogs were referred to as "Weblogs". Over the years as technology changed, improved and was simplified, weblogs were just called "Blogs". With today's technology it is easy and fast to create blogs with photos, videos and even polls and charts. There literally is no limit!

With that said, a blog is no good without readers. How do you get people to read your blogs and hopefully leave comments and share with their audience? The answer is simple: Social Media.

Online Social Communities like Zurker, Facebook and Twitter are great platforms for promoting your blog and getting a Targeted Audience. A Targeted Audience is:

  • People searching for what you know and write about
  • People searching to purchase a product or service.
  • People who can relate to your story or condition.

If you are a photographer (professional or novice) Pinterest is a great way to share your blog's photos with a backlink to your blog. You share a photo from your blog on Pinterest and when people click on the photo, it goes to the article or blog that the photo came from. Genius!

You're Not a Dummy...But This Can Help You!

The Future Of Blogging

What does the future hold for bloggers? Well, to be honest, "Everybody's doing it!". Although this is true, not everyone is doing what you do! No one has the same thoughts as you, ideas as you or skills as you. No matter what you write about or what type of business you are in, there is a lot of potential for online recognition from blogging your niche. Here are some tips for successful blogging:

  • Never give up!
  • Have patience
  • Do research
  • Read, follow and comment on other blogger's blogs
  • Don't be afraid to try new things
  • Re-invent the wheel!

Blogging can't hurt...but it can help you get your ideas, business or product out there. You have nothing to loose! Why don't you start your blog today!

Take A Challenge!

See You Soon!

What To Expect From JSMatthew.com Blog

Well, as I have stated before, I usually keep my HubPages' articles impersonal and unbiased. At my new Blog however, I am free to write whatever moves me. Personal, venting, whatever. I like that freedom. No moderators, no haters (and hopefully no trolls!). I plan to organize my blog randomly through inspirations and daily interactions. Life in words...

I don't promise to write a post everyday, although that is my goal. I will take it one day at a time and write about things that I want to that probably wouldn't make it on HubPages. I do have a reputation to uphold! With that said, head on over to my New Blog and see what I have been up to. Feel free to share and leave comments. See you on the World Wide Web!

Your blog looks great. I need to do more than hubpages. I like it here, though. Have fun.

Hello wetnosedogs! I love HubPages and I really think that they are trying to keep up with the search engine changes. It's been a tough year for some of us and we need to not put all our eggs in one basket. Thanks for stopping by!

I loved seeing you in the video James. I have known you virtually for 2 years, seeing the video is as near to meeting someone in person. I think its so true what you said regarding blogging. Yes, everyone's doing it, but no one has the same thoughts as you, ideas as you or skills as you!!

I look forward to reading your blog!

Hello Lesleysherwood! Nice to see you! Isn't it cool and also funny how we become friends with people we never actually met? I have always appreciated HubPages because of the community. There really is no other site out there with people like Hubbers. I am happy you stopped by and I am glad you are following my blog! I hope to write soon! Thanks for your comment.

This is very Informative. I actually just got my domain name, and hosting site and hooked it up with Wordpress last night. Now u need to build my blog. I'll have to come back and read some of your other blog related articles. This is very timely. Thank you.

@livingsta: Hello! Thanks for subscribing to my blog. I don't get to write as often as I would like in the warmer months because I work 3 jobs. When I get more time I want to be able to try to write at least 3-4 posts per week. I do like the freedom of having no rules on a blog as apposed to writing for sites like HP. It's a great outlet to show a more "human" side of an article/content writer. It really is fun. I appreciate your comment and follow!

Ever since I joined HP, I lost interest in blogging and left my Blogger account unattended. As you said, Blog has its own features like freedom in expression, no bossing, etc. We can write whatever we love to write and no one to evaluate us except the readers. Your article gives me some confidence to rejuvenate my dead blog account with Blogger. You have so nicely expressed things and in your usual style of easy presentation. Thank you for sharing.

Hello sunilkunnoth2012! I started the opposite way; I was a Hubber before I created any Blogs. I set up and tried writing on a few different platforms but the one mentioned here is the one I am going to keep. The address is simple and I am just getting comfortable with the Dashboard. I do not keep up with my blog as much as I would like to (I wish I could post at least once per day) but that's the great thing about having a "side-blog". You can post when you want and include just about whatever content or information that you want to. That is in itself true freedom! I appreciate your comment and I sense a revival of sorts for 2014 and writing blog posts. Here's to this New Year! Thanks for stopping by and for leaving the first Hub comment for my Hubs in 2014!

I have found success with Google blogger. I created a blog for my business a few years ago, so I use it to write articles specifically for eLearning, Instructional Design and related software tools. It's called Easy Learning blog ( easylearningweb dot blogspot dot com ). It comes in handy when I need to share helpful info with co-workers and to promote it, I link articles to my my Facebook business page and I also signed up for lots of business groups on LinkedIn and then sometimes I share links from my blog on their forums. I love to write articles for my blog when I have the time. Just like Hubpages, when we make (and have) the time to devote to writing, it's great.

Success to you.

Hello easylearningweb! I tried Blogger for a while but never really did much with it. I think Blogger and WordPress are similar as far as I can see. I will have to check out your blog! I find that having a few intertwined blogs helps with promoting our content. I appreciate you sharing your experience. Thanks for stopping by!

Hello Ruby H Rose! I think I might still have a blog on blogger but I think there is only one old post. Maybe someday if I have time I will write on that one too. I also think I joined weebly and a few others but there is a lot out there and so little time! I hope the links are useful for you. Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for this great Hub on blogging JS! I have tried blogging a couple of times in the past, but I never felt that I had found my voice and lost the drive to continue the blog. Since I have started writing Hubs I feel like my writing has improved from what it was then and I look forward to developing a circle or readers here that might be interested in what I have to say in a blog setting down the road. This post is a good starting resource and I will be bookmarking and returning to in the future.
