Introduction To SAP
A Simple Introduction To SAP
SAP is a breed of Enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. This type of software is used by a vast majority of large companies. The integrated database of ERP systems such as SAP allow the companies to have access to realtime information and has given them the agility to respond to rapidly changing markets and to compete on a global level.
The abbrieviation SAP stands for Systems, Applications & Products. It is NOT pronounced as a word but instead the letters are spelt out when referring to the system (i.e. say S-A-P not sap). SAP holds the #1 position in the market share of Enterprise Applications (ERP, CRM, SCM, PLM, SRM).
Global Rankings of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems:
2) Oracle Applications (JD Edwareds, PeopleSoft, Sibel, Retek)
3) Microsoft Business Solutions (Great Plains, Navision, Axapta)
5) The Sage Group (PeachTree), AccPac ERP)
6) Infor Global Solutions of Atlantas (BAAN)

A great book providing information mostly on the end user aspect of navigating through SAP.
Another great introductory book into SAP that provides an overview on all aspects of the software.
