Launching a Niche Blog - Following a Blog from Inception to Success (Part 2)
This is the second hub is a series that will follow the launch of a niche Blog. If you missed part one, take a look here. So now that I have my research complete and my domain name ready to go, I need to prepare things for my WordPress installation and begin writing some continent. For those unfamiliar with WordPress, it is driven from a data base. Like other content management systems, WordPress dynamically retrieves data from that data base, and thus provides some nice structure to your website.
Step 1 – Install WordPress
Having added my database to my domain at my hosting provider, I am now ready to install WordPress and my chosen theme. The installation is relatively simple, but if you are new to the process, you may want to read the instructions a couple of times. You will also need some familiarity with an FTP application. This will allow you to move the WordPress package to your internet hosting provider. Using the WordPress 5 minute installation, I was able to get the site up and running. I have also moved my theme over, so I have the basic building blocks of my site in place.
Step 2 – Begin Writing Content
I still have quite a bit of work to do in order to get my theme in the shape I want, but just getting the site up and looking good gives me some energy to keep things moving. Knowing that I will need several pieces of content to launch the site, I have begun writing some of the initial material I will need for the Blog. My first piece is pretty straight forward; basically just a simple welcome article explaining why the Blog exists and inviting readers to take part. Every Blog should include a welcome article that explains why the Blog is relevant in the first place. With that article complete except for the final edit, I have started to do some research on my topic. Keep in mind, I let the niche define the topic, so I do not have much expertise on my subject to this point, but in short order that will come. Ultimately, this Blog will fill a well defined niche, so I will not have significant ongoing research once I have a decent understanding of the topic. Further, I did make sure that I chose a niche in which I was interested. If it was a pure money play, it is unlikely that I would stay interested in the site.
Step 3 – Find the Appropriate Affiliate
With things starting to come together for a launch, I have a few other items that I need to start with. First, I intend to monetize the site with affiliate money and AdSense in the beginning. I may offer additional products later, but that remains to be seen. I obviously have AdSense ready to go, but I need to find the best affiliate for product sales, so I will be doing that as I work through my topic research. I will work on this over the next few days, and I expect to have a proper affiliate locked within a week. Further, I should have the Blog theme customized and ready to go.
Once I get the Blog up and running, I will further refine the design, and I will begin my SEO efforts. In the future updates, I will discuss those efforts along with the other tactics. I will be covering back linking efforts, AdWords plans, and cover how things are playing out with Google keyword results.
