Motorola Droid by Verizon

The Droid Revealed

The Verizon Network has finally revealed it's much anticipated Droid phone.  This Android phone is expected to provide the first serious competition to the Apple iPhone.  One of the most annoying things about the iPhone is the lack of a true keyboard.  Using a touchscreen keyboard can be rather, well...touchy.

The Droid is a collaboration between the three huge forces of Verizon, Motorola, and Google.  In addition to this it's also slim like the iPhone, and pretty.  As a matter of fact, it looks like an iPhone.  Ads for the Droid seem to have one theme, mocking the iPhone.  Word is that the Droid will be available by Halloween.  The Droid will have a 5 megapixel camera that is capable of night shots.  It will also have facebook support.

The Droid features much more multitasking capabilities than the iPhone due to its 600 MHz processor in addition to a seperate graphics and image signal processessor.  The Droid will be the first phone to use Android 2.0.

The Google Maps capability on Android 2.0 is said to be amazing, including displaying traffic conditions, latitude, transit lines, and satellite images as well as the two finger tap zoom.  Andriod 2.0 is also very fast in comparison to earlier versions. It also runs widgets, unlike the iPhone.

The fact that the Driod is on the Verizon network vs. the iPhone's AT&T Network should not be discounted.  The Verizon network is a huge draw.  All in all, the Droid is a force to be reckoned with.

Thanks for the info! At Verizon's website where the droid is advertised, you can actually translate the 'weird characters' on the bottom into numbers. And if you do, it will read that the release date is 10/28. Just so everyone knows :)Check it out at droid.com.
