Nokia Belle Update for Symbian^3
Nokia Belle Arrives
update Not There :(
Updating my Nokia E7 to Belle
Updating From Anna To Belle
So I woke up Tuesday morning and the Twittersphere was full of the announcement of the release of 'Nokia Belle' for older Symbian^3 devices like the C7, N8 and E7, been looking forward to this having briefly tried a hacked version of Belle on my E7, so I cranked up Nokia Suite on my PC and connected my E7, let the whole thing connect up, and then checked for software updates. Unfortunately I got an error message, including a link for the latest version of Nokia Suite,3.3.86, so I upgraded and installed it, assuming the Nokia servers were extremely busy due to demand after the announcement and newer PC software may help the situation, but unfortunately, was told my phone was running the latest software, Anna and so the wait for my phone to hit the top of the list began !! Having an unbranded handset direct from Nokia , I was hoping this would not take too long, but five hours later, still no Belle to be heard ?
Passing time and waiting
Anyway, during the wait, apart from doing a few domestic chores on my day off, I thought I'd take a few screen shots on my E7 running Anna so I had some comparison once the latest and greatest Symbian update arrived, and thought I'd write a little piece about my experience .
So finally at 6pm, the software showed up on my PC, checked for updates and there she was and it was time to ring the Belle, quite a large update 310meg and all the usual warnings about backup and agreeing terms and conditions gone through, away I went. The operation took about 25 minutes in all and then came the set up. I was keen to have the extra 'homescreens' as I'd enjoyed multiple screens when using Android, and as there were some larger widgets on Belle I found I needed more screens to get all the stuff I generally use on my phone easily available, also I like tinkering, and tinkering after a major update is the best type !!!
I'm not going to go through changelogs etc, as they will no doubt have been covered in detail, and professionally on the web at many tech sites,
here for example at All About Symbian
and here at MyNokiaBlog
But thought I'd just post a few screenshots (assuming screen snap is still compatible with Belle) and photo's of the procedeure and differences in the phone !
So far the whole thing seems to be a great experience, and has given the E7 and Symbian a whole new lease of life , and most importantly Gravity and Maps both work like a dream, job done !!

PS, after using the phone for a day, and a couple of issues that arose, top tip, if you use Mail for Exchange to sync your contacts and calendar, don't back them up prior to update, or at least don't reinstall afterwards, as I had a major issue with duplicate contacts and having to reorganise three handsets as a result. Also of the three additional, optional updates Microsoft apps refused to install before my fifteenth attempt today (Wednesday) and the others would only install after rebooting both my PC and my E7, the only other issue I had, a minor one in my case, was that the latest version of the Nokia Social app v1.5 for Belle, simply will not install from the Nokia store despite numerous attempts, as I rarely if ever use it, I find this slightly irritating as apposed to disasterous !!
Update and set up shots
So after a day with Belle, and setting up the phone , I'm really impressed, very customisable and few drawbacks. All the apps I was struggling to install are now on and working , got the social app installed by downloading from store website and installing on E7 via Nokia Suite connected via usb, few apps have failed to work,. Main drawback the media gallery tends to be slow to refresh. The fact you can put shortcuts anywhere is great and I like the new larger widgets which tend to be more functional, you can actually scroll through your mail on the emails widgets, for example !! Just thought I'd add some more screen shots of my 6 homescreens now I'm all set up, and give a short user experience !!

Just a very quick Video recorded on my Lumia 800 to demonstrate the ability to swipe between mail accounts by swiping from left to right within the mail application on the Nokia E7 running Belle. Fantastic improvement and well worth using.
