ONE HUNDRED YEAR OLD INNOVATIONS

Geiger-Müller counter

Geiger Muller counter was one of the most noteworthy inventions in 1908. Used for detecting alpha and beta radiation it is a particle detector used for measuring ionized radiation. Initially developed in collaboration with Ernest Rutherford, it was later improved with the assistance of his Phd student Walther Muller.

TIN LIZZIE

1908 was the year when Henry Ford put ‘America on wheels'. He developed the Ford Model T which was popularly called Tin Lizzie. The first model rolled out on September 27, 1908 and Ford continued to do so until 1927. Ford's dream was "to build a car for the great multitude. It will be large enough for the family, but small enough for the individual to run and care for. It will be constructed of the best materials, by the best men to be hired, after the simplest designs that modern engineering can devise. But it will be low in price that no man making a good salary will be unable to own one-and enjoy with his family the blessing of hours of pleasure in God's great open spaces."

What made Tin Lizzie a success was the development of an innovative style of production. The assembly line production which he introduced revolutionized manufacturing and replaced the old hand crafting method.
