Western Digital Portable External Hard Drives 1TB Make Screaming Unnecessary

There I sat for what seemed like the hundredth time, as my computer screen went black and then shut itself off. Aaaaauuuugggghhhh I wanted to scream as I headed to the internet on the other and only computer turned on and running in the office at the time to look at portable external hard drive choices!

Our computers were about one year old, so I knew that wasn't the problem. The problem was too many memory hogs all tying to start and wanting them to work at the same time -all located on our desktop.

This experience was not new to me because I had already gotten an external hard drive for our other computers because of the same issue. The results were beautiful!

In the business of running multiple businesses I have a certain criteria that I use for any hardware or software purchase.

My Criteria:

- Affordable

- Easy to Use & Set Up

- Compact size and light weight

- Company reputation in good standing

- Company longevity

- Company return policy is fair and doesn't use hidden fee tactics to make sales

- Company pioneer or leader in that technology area (not as vital a criteria as the others, but important)

- Company conducts regular product testing

- Company product support - Is it reliable, friendly, and efficient?

How I Felt BEFORE I Got Our External Hard Drive!

Western Digital Portable External Hard Drives 1TB - Learn About Your Hard Drive Choice!

What I Knew:

This is my third or fourth purchase of portable external hard drives, so I already had done my research on the company and knew I was going to look at Western Digital 1 TB portable external hard drives.

What I already knew about Western Digital was that they had established themselves in 1970, and had become a world-wide leader in hard drives for internal, external, portable and shared storage applications.

I also knew that WD hard drives have uses in desktops and notebook computers (we have 5), mobile and handheld devices (we have 8), corporate networks, and also home entertainment equipment (lots of that too).

What I didn't Know:

Because security and storage is so vital to our companies, I already felt safe knowing that our external hard drive was going to be safe and secure. but, I can't speak to this because it hasn't been an issue.

The devices we purchased were so easy to use, and the lack of downloadable software made it so simple that I hadn't had to use their telephone or online support systems, so I can't speak to those two things.

Buying And Liking Western Digital Portable And Desktop External Hard Drives 1TB

What I Especially Like:

Taking pictures is my 'thing,' so I wanted a storage system that could handle my photo storage needs without complicated instructions or having to buy a secondary software or device. This hard drive also had to load our software so we could take it off the desktop.

Cost was under $150.00 - Not my main criteria, but certainly a good one!

The small and compact size and weight makes it easy to bring and travel with our laptops, making any seminar participation or travel to show off photos about as complicated as putting on jewelry.

I am a light sleeper and the use of bright lights at night can wake me up and keep me awake, so the use of a rear LED light was especially appealing to me! Plus, the bonus of the quietness of the device meant that when I fly I am not bothering the person next to me, the seminar attendee next to me, or having the child next to me looking over my shoulder while I try to write a report, because they hear the 'noise.' I love kids, just not the ones who like to look over my shoulder in close spaces.

It's fast - The Western Digital Portable 1 TB External Hard Drives are fast for speedy data transfers. I wish I could be in less of a hurry, but really don't think that will EVER happen. Once I finished the set-up for it, I enjoyed the speed of it - even though it's a USB 2.0.

What I am most excited about is that not only are there portable external hard drives, but there are also Western Digital 1 TB Desktop External Hard Drives. Life is Good!

I've had a plethora of external hard drives - some wonderful & some less so. I have a new WD Essential 1TB which I plan to install for my laptop backup, since I do a great amount of work on it. It's been being backed up to the Maxtor connected to my desktop via Windows Live OneCare - but that service is being discontinued, along with its automatic backup and network "family" of my home computers under its wing. (three desktops & this laptop! LOL) Anyway - I think I prefer each computer to have its own external backup & the freedom to individually back up special items in addition to the automatic backups for protection & actually this laptop has been the only PC without its own but that's about to change.

I'm pleased to hear that you like your WD external hard drive!! I'm looking forward to getting mine on here.

HI Nellieanna - I'm with you on every computer having their own external backup system! Your office sounds like ours! Individual systems lets us be so much more versatile, plus we aren't dependent on any one system that way, too. I like that! Let me know how you like it after you get it - the lack of noise was a feature that especially impressed me and I didn't know it was loud in here until there wasn't any noise anymore! LOL!

Just curiously are you using your external HDDs as ReadyBoost? If you have "too many memory hogs all tying to start and wanting them to work at the same time -all located on our desktop" you need more RAM not more storage :-) Externals are really useful though I have about 10!

Hi Lymond-excellent suggestion - I already know that which is why I have all of our computers at max RAM. Had I not had to spend the money I would have, but I've been through this with all of our computers already. The bonus also for us is that we change computers regularly and I don't have to keep backing up each system onto a new computer this way, plus I can take any of the hard drives with me wherever we go and depending on what our needs are. These portable and desktop hard drives give us that flexibility so we have the best of any computer situation right at our fingertips - I love that!

Advice that needs to be repeated. I've had a good beating by not backing up my system. Lost all my data. Ouch!!

Hi kowality!

"Ouch" is right! I'll bet you felt like the guy who wrote the 80 page dissertation without hitting "SAVE" even once - just before the lightening storm that crashed his computer. I know I sure did when it happened to me! Thanks for stopping!
