Tiger Direct APO FPO DPO Fast

TigerDirect is a great Computer, Software and Video Game store that can be used to fill in the gaps on items that Amazon will not ship overseas (see note on that topic below).

They have great prices in:

  • Desktop computers
  • Laptops
  • Netbooks
  • Chromebooks
  • Tablets
  • GPS
  • Monitors
  • Hard drives
  • Digital cameras
  • Electronics
  • Software
  • Video games
  • RAM
  • Computer parts

They ship fast, but with two concerns. The first is that if you are looking for a new computer, please make sure you don't buy a refurbished one by accident. TigerDirect's refurbished computers and laptops are OK - I've bought them in the past if I didn't want to spend money on a new computer. Just ensure that you check all details on a particular purchase - "refurbished" computers are specifically noted as such.

The second concern is that TigerDirect occasionally uses drop-shipments (they use a second shipper for a product not in their warehouse), which may slow your package delivery time at an APO FPO DPO address - sometimes by a number of weeks (I've only had this happen once). There's no real way to tell which items will end up being drop-shipped. If someone out there knows the answer to the question of how to determine which items will be drop-shipped, please drop a Comment below.

Alternate online stores for fast APO FPO DPO Computers and Electronics delivery are:

  • J & R Music. Mom and pop store that expanded into online computer and electronics sales, and is now a lot like TigerDirect - in that you can use it to fill in the gaps on stuff you need that Amazon won't ship.
  • Amazon. Amazon's shopping cart, of course, tells you if something you're trying to order will not ship APO DPO FPO. It's actually a pretty fast process to check a product - and some Computer and Electronics stuff does ship overseas.

A note on Amazon's Computer and Electronics shipping policies: There's nothing stopping Amazon from shipping computers and software to overseas US military shoppers, although they usually quote U.S. Postal Service regulations while explaining their policy. The USPS regulations essentially facilitate the terrible inventory of computers and software you see at overseas US military stores - because the regulations allow the US military stores to ship computers and software to be sold in physical stores located overseas - but preclude Amazon from putting the same items in the mail to the same customers at the same overseas locations (Amazon shipS some computer and electronics stuff overseas - just not enough to matter).

Breaking news (maybe). I think Amazon may ship software APO FPO DPO now, which would be a huge development - since you used to have to depend on exchange small inventories, TigerDirect and J&R. TigerDirect and J&R Music are great stores, but competition will force prices down.
