LG 84UB9800

#4 LG Electronics 84UB9800 84-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz 3D LED TV

Rival to Samsung UN85HU8550 above.

LG started out its 3rd Gen Premium 4K LED TV’s with 84UB9800. The key differences from previous 4K models are the 4 HDMI 2.0 ports, IPS panel and UltraClarity feature. The built-in speaker quality of 84UB9800 is excellent. It also upscale low resolution images into 4K so that you can watch all your favorite shows in UHD. The passive 3D technology is excellent and the 3D glasses provided are lighter and comfortable to wear. Dual view function enables multitasking. The screen is split to 2 and you can select what image to see. The new WebOS system for Smart TV functioning is very fast and easy to use. Buffering time of 2D and 3D content is greatly reduced.

LG 84UB9800 has a sleek and minimalist look. Wall mounting is better for this model. The bezels are very thin and you feel like the screen floating over the bottom speakers.

Overall Rating: 8 / 10

Another rival to both of the above with a slightly higher price tag is Toshiba 84L9300U 84-Inch 4k.

TH-85PF12U
TH-85PF12U

#3 Panasonic 85" Professional 1080p Full-HD Plasma Display (TH-85PF12U)

Panasonic introduces the TH-85PF12U, the first 85-inch, full HD 1080p plasma display of the entire industry. This model is only 9.9 cm thick which is much thinner than previous plasma models.

The new Panasonic plasma is about 120kg, the thinnest and lightest plasma on the market. With Panasonic's NeoPDP technology, the 85 inch, full HDTV consumes only about half energy than its predecessor of the same size. The dynamic contrast ratio of 40,000: 1/2000000:1 tells you a lot about the quality.

Overall Rating: 8 / 10

Panasonic's rival here is the Sony XBR85X950B 85-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz 3D LED TV. But its not as good as its look.

Samsung UN85S9

#2 Samsung UN85S9 85-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz 3D Smart LED TV

Samsung’s new ultra HD model UN85S9 has conquered the market already. The frame is what makes the UHD monitor unique at first look itself. Samsung call it “Timeless Gallery”. The frame allows the monitor to be tilted and moved so that you can easily place it according to your comfort. The box contains one-connect box (act as the TV’s connection bay), connecting cable, 4 active 3D glasses and touchpad remote.

Speaking of the display, the full array of LED backlight which completely cover the LCD panel and broken down to numerous zones provide extra ordinary deep black levels and superior shadow detail. The anti-glare coating provided is of premium quality so that you will not see any reflection or finger prints or other smudges on the screen. The excellent brightness and black levels make Samsung S9 superior than its competitors.

Another feature worth discussing is the ability of UN85S9 to upscale Full HD and lower resolution contents to ultra HD. You can view every movie and shows in 4K resolution no matter what. The connections available are 4 HDMI ports, 3 USB ports, component and composite video in, optical and analog audio out and a LAN port. The S9 also has a built-in camera for your video calls. A mic is provided for voice recognition and search command. Another new technology is Samsung’s S-recommendation function which monitors all you “TV activity” and recommends you contents to watch. If you are rich enough to buy this, don’t think. Just go and grab it!

Samsung UN85S9 Key Features:

  • UHD 4K resolution
  • Super large screen size
  • High quality, hidden speakers
  • One connect box
  • Iconic design
  • Built-in camera

Pros:

  • Amazing UHD resolution
  • Superior viewing angles

Price: $149,999.99 A review: "Purchased this TV for my island retreat. Use it to primarily watch comedies like "The Shrinking Middle Class", "Income Inequality" and "The Ever Widening Wage Gap." Have to say, wow what a picture! Watching the 99% struggle with this level of clarity is amazing. It's like I'm right there beside them but thankfully I am not. No need to see that suffering firsthand, I can watch it in crystal clear 4K from a safe distance. Thanks Samsung!"
