ViewSonic created and launched one of the first 3D compatible projectors, the PJD6381. It is a 120Hz HD Ready projector with a native XGA 1024x768 resolution that is based on Texas Instrument's DLP (Digital Light Processing) technology.

But the most remarkable feature of this projector is its ultra-short throw ratio: thanks to its lens, you can project a 50 inches wide image from a distance of just 27 inches! This makes the PJD6381 the perfect projector for a small room.

The PJD6381 has a brightness of 2500 ANSI Lumens and a convincing dynamic contrast ratio of 2400:1; images displayed by this ViewSonic projector are particularly clear and crisp.

The ViewSonic PJD6381 is compatible with NVIDIA's 3D Vision technology, which involves using a computer with a video card of this technology (one of the relatively latest but yet common NVIDIA GeForce cards). With images refreshing at a rate of 120 Hz, the PJD6381 makes it possible, using NVIDIA's 3D vision polarised eyeglasses synchronised with the projector, to display alternating stereoscopic images to the left and right eyes at a 60Hz rate each, which enables smooth looking transitions.

The images comes directly from the computer's GPU, using the information used for the basic "flat" 3D rendering, which means that it works for games that were not necessarily intended to be played in stereoscopic 3D. Thus, it is possible to enjoy hundreds of video games in 3D. But note that at the time of this writing, the lack of adapted solutions makes it not possible to watch movies in 3D. Color performance is enhanced using Texas Instrument's BilliantColor technology, which improves color reproduction, sharpness and depth of shade by 6-color spectral processing.

Electronic keystone correction (+/– 40 vertical degrees) maintains a squared image (a distorted image results from a misalignment of the axis going from the projector to the screen).

The projector can be ceiling or tabletop mounted. There is a built-in pair of 5 watt speakers, but you’d probably prefer to use something with better sound quality and more power when playing games or watching movies.

The projector uses automatic signal detection to reduce setup times, and it is possible to customize the start-up screen.

The ViewSonic PJD6381 comes with a remote control.
