What is the difference between Notebook Vs Laptop Computer

The difference between notebook and laptop computer is not really significant if you are not a 'techy' person. A Notebook and a Laptop computer are used interchangeably to mean the same, since after all they are both compatible, portable and perform almost the same functions.

Advanced technology has seen the need to have communication at all times and have thereby made our computing devices smaller and smaller from desktop to laptop to netbook to PDAs and now mobile phones.

Even though the notebook and laptop computer both perform the same functions, depending on your preferences, there still is a difference that you need to take note of before buying either.

Difference between Notebook and Laptop

A notebook is lighter, designed to be portable and to provide mobile communication on the go for both work(they are perfect for email, browsing and office functions) and some leisure(like your social networking) much like a large diary.

Laptops are designed with typical components of a desktop computer integrated into the chassis to replace the baggage of an entire desktop PC while still offering desktop performance on a mobile platform. It has much better graphics, internal DVD/CD drive.

Notebook Vs Laptop - Size

The slight difference between Notebook and Laptop is that Notebooks compared to Laptops are ultra light, weighing about 2lbs thus makes it easy to be carried around but has fewer features and less computing power. A Laptop on the other hand can also be carried around but weighs about 6lbs with extra features.

Notebook Vs Laptop - Battery Life

The Notebook has a less powerful processor and thereby consumes less power, having a battery life of about for 4-5 hours while the laptop has a more powerful processor with a battery life of just about 3hours and needs to be constantly charged.

Notebook Vs Laptop - Price

They both have varying prices. A high end notebook can be considered expensive, but a notebook is generally cheaper than a laptop because of its portability.

Notebook Vs Laptop - Other features

Another noticeable difference between Notebook and laptop is that Notebooks do not have an internal floppy or DVD/CD system while a standard laptop can accommodate a built-in disk drive unit for a removable CD ROM drive so you can watch and enjoy your favorite movies on the go.

A Notebook needs the aid of an accessory like a docking station to quickly connect to a desktop monitor, keyboard, mouse, network connection, printer, and more. A Laptop has multiple USB ports so you can insert a flash drive, a mouse and video outputs that allow you to connect them to monitors or TV sets.

The difference between Notebook and Laptop at a glance

Depending on what your requirement are, these are the differences of notebook vs laptop at a glance

2. 3 hour+ battery life.

A full featured keyboard - -don't neglect the importance of this. I purchased a mini, not thinking, and the keys are just too small to do a lot of typing on it.

Thank you TroyM for noting that. Its just that it will depend on the users opinion. For some, since they feel comfortable working with their mobile phones and the little buttons, then the tiny keyboard on the notebook may not be a problem for them. Thanks for stopping by
