Radiation cancer health risks - RF EMF - from mobile phones, wireless electric power meters, wifi, Zigbee standard

Who needs a mobile phone, anyhow?

Try one of these and not only will you get clear reception but also, you will not fry your brain.

Good reason to dust off the landline, or head for the hills and go offgrid

Scientists had agreed it was time to apply a precautionary principle - to control the spread of wireless smart meters; phone towers, digital TV towers and things with the the Zigbee chip or WiFi, Bluetooth; all competing in a free unlicensed bandwidth.
Smart meters not a good idea:
The newest wireless widget - the Zigbee - a commercial agreement between suppliers - was to to raise the invisible bath of radiation in each home to a super heated level. It was to radiate energy up to 1500 meters from the "smart meter. In short, no escape. Yet the link between exposure to magnetic fields and leukemia is no longer in doubt. Increase the dose, it increases the rate of leukemia.
Tale of two wireless networks: This means your home may end up in a bath of non-stop radiation from multiple sources; hand held devices, and wireless internet - ADSL with WiFi; and a second burst - wireless smart grid electricity meters; thus doubling, even trebling, cancer-forming radiation effects.
Risks from a bath of radiation to little children and babies:
Risk one: Babies faced high risks; the radiation triggers changes in early embryonic development.
Risk two: DNA-change in men - to sperm - suggested risk of declines in quality of human beings in successive generations.
Risk three: The other risk - to - children and adults - brain cancer. These risks were about 3 times higher in adults exposed to radiation and near six times higher, in children.
Political power
: Investors with political power had banded together to form wireless standards, with little consideration to long term health risks to the buyers.

Bath of radiation to the home from smart meters and home networks may cause epidemics of health damage

Many smart meters were close to beds, always turned on, and never off, and exposure was not voluntary. What's more some governments make them mandatory, and consumers pay all costs. One example is Victoria, Australia

Smart meter radiation: The private standard - ZigBee - operates in the industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) radio bands; 868 MHz in Europe, 915 MHz in the USA and Australia, and 2.4 GHz elsewhere.
ZigBee data speeds were 20 to 250 kilobits/second;
The raw, over-the-air data rate is 250 kbit/s per channel in the 2.4 GHz band, 40 kbit/s per channel in the 915 MHz band, and 20 kbit/s in the 868 MHz band.
US-Australia private zigbee standard: Transmission range is between 10 and 75 meters (33 and 246 feet) and up to 1500 meters for the US-Australia private zigbee standard, although it is heavily dependent on the particular environment. The output power of the radios is generally 0 dBm (1 mW).
Related devices are used for covert surveillance from vehicles
: Spooks were advised to put the phone-listening widgets on the outside of the car to reduce cancer risk; not to "hide" it under a tissue box on the dashboard, or under a hat. Too close to the DNA.

Danger in prolonged or repetitive wireless exposures of SmartGrid-type system

According to Prof Olle Johansson, Assoc. Prof. Experimental Dermatology Unit, Department of Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet Stockholm, Sweden, many smart meters were close to beds, never off, and the exposure was not voluntary.
“Utilities should choose options that do not create new, community-wide exposures from wireless components of SmartGrid-type projects. Future health risks from prolonged or repetitive wireless exposures of SmartGrid-type systems may be avoided by using fiber-optic cable".
Energy efficiency good, but not if it raises cancer risks:
“Energy conservation is endorsed but not at the risk of exposing millions of families in their homes to a new, involuntary source of wireless radiofrequency radiation, the effect of which on their health not yet known”.
Risk more serious for smart meters:
Prompted by all this, a group of international experts recently paper, The Seletun Scientific Statement (2011).
Governments asked to order safety review:
"There is a need for mandatory pre-market assessments of emissions and risks before deployment of new wireless technologies. There should be convincing evidence that products do not cause health harm before marketing".

DNA damage and cancer warning: from Zigbee smart meters

Radiation from devices in the 950MHz range - that is the Zigbee standard, as used by Australian and US smart meters - had the potential to cause DNA damage.

  1. This was found in mice, to the fetus at early stages of development.
  2. The radiation activates extracellular-signal-regulated kinases (ERKs);
  3. sisruption of the ERK pathway is common in cancers.

Science rules: In June 2011 the World Health Organization (WHO) included radio-frequency radiation on the 2B list of carcinogens.
The higher the exposure the higher the risk and electricity meters the worst:

Wireless smart meters were described as the most risk as they were on all the time at a rate 100 times, above the next most-risky devices:

  1. GSM handsets;
  2. followed by digital enhanced cordless telecommunications, and
  3. DECT phones.

Land lines good for your health: Advice was to use land lines, not wireless for electricity meters. The same with mobile phones.
Text only; then when you need to talk; talk on a land line.

  1. “The use of telephone lines (land-lines) or fiber optic cables for SmartGrid type energy conservation infrastructure is recommended”, as
  2. RF-EMF was “possibly carcinogenic to humans” (Group 2B).
  3. This evaluation was supported by a large majority of Working Group members of the World Health Organization radiation risks science committee.

Lots of money to make, but do the firms care about health risks?: The money coming up for investors was about $26 billion a year, to firms with names like this list below. I searched at each site to see what precautionary data each published on radio frequency, RF and electromagnetic frequency EMF risks. I found none at each. I did the search on 9 February 2012.

  1. HomePlug Alliance: Search available only media releases: "EMF" search result on media releases was "No results found"
  2. Wi-Fi Alliance: "EMF" search result "Your search yielded no results"
  3. HomeGrid Forum; Unable to search for EMF. No search tool on site
  4. ZigBee Alliance. EMF search result on Zigbee site "Sorry, no results were found for "emf"

The electricity distributors were the target market for this new wireless home invasion.
Consumer can't escape? The electricity distributors intended to sell it to you and me; we would have no choice as governments enforced "mandatory rollout". That is, you were forced to buy it. The ideas was it was good for you. But it was probedly even better for the profitability of electricity firms as all the risk was covered by you and me, and the even the trials funded by you and me, as government funded pilots.
Is any one listening?: My comment on this: This is all very strange as its hard to understand why the electricity market works in this way when the telecommunications industry operates competitively. Did Iphones need government funded pilots and mandatory rollout?

Community-wide exposure risk

According to Prof Olle Johansson, Assoc. Prof. Experimental Dermatology Unit, Department of Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet Stockholm, Sweden:

  1. many smart meters were close to beds,

Fiber-optic cable has lower risk: "Utilities should choose options that do not create new, community-wide exposures from wireless components of SmartGrid-type projects.

Energy effiiciency good, but not if it raises cancer risks:

Risk more serious for smart meters:

  1. Among its warnings on smart meters by Olle Johansson, and others, were:
  2. a need for mandatory pre-market assessments of emissions and risks before deployment of new wireless technologies.; and

New wireless home invasion: The electricity distributors were the target market for this new wireless home invasion. They would sell it to you as part of your electricity bill.

Deal of the century for electricity investors: My comment on this: This is all very strange as its hard to understand why the electricity market works in this way when the telecommunications industry operates competitively. Did Iphones need government funded pilots and mandatory rollout?
Time to head for the hills and go offgrid?
Why do we need mandatory roll out - one we pay for - for a technology which competes with other technologies? We need the power to opt out. But if the neighbours' Smart Meters radiates to 1500 meters - are we powerless to opt out?
