It will surely save your energy costs and are environment friendly. Energy costs are rising and every one wants to cut down expenses to be able to save more. Also the best part is that it does not harm the environment.

please remember the downside - this technology for personal use will get better and better and you'll have to purchase a new system
Nonetheless, this is true that in a few years you'll be able to repay the system (and even save a nice sum).

So, if you're gonna do it, you should check first for the available newest technology.

My friend installs Solar panels, and he installed them at his own house, he actually only pays $5 a month for his electric, and he really could be paying less if he didn't leave his lights on all the time.  Nevertheless mad goat makes a good argument saying that technology will be ever changing and it you'll want to upgrade to a new system.  But as is anything with technology.  My best advice is to buy a solar panel system right after a new technology comes out, unless money is no object and you can have the latest and greatest it may be better to get one generation of technology worse and save money that way.  Solar panels are made to last for a while and you won't need to replace them for years, so I don't see what's wrong with last year's model.

I'm not sure, but I am thinking you are referring to solar lights found in a garden area, or along a sidewalk. The advantage of these is that you don't have to run low voltage wire or have an electrical system. Each light works independently of all the other ones. Another great advantage is that it doesn't cost you to power them. The sun recharges their battery and they operate without a switch.
