   I signed up for Facebook two weeks. I did so because the place where I get my hair cut sent me an e-mail message stating they were giving a coupon and free products to the first 500 persons who visited their Facebook page.
   
   After I logged on to my account, I noticed something scary: In the right-most column were photos and the names of people who Facebook thought I knew, whose friend Facebook thought I would want to be.
   
   One person was someone in another country with whom I hadn't had any contact in seven years. Two others were former work colleagues (from different jobs), both of whom I hadn't had any contact with for at least four or five years. Another was my boyfriend's sister-in-law, who neither of us has ever met in person and with whom we don't exchange e-mail messages or telephone calls. Another was one of my first cousins  (with the same surname as me).
   
   I don't think I'm concerned about Facebook tracking my Interest use, but I'm puzzled as to how Facebook knew about my former associates and my cousin,

   Daisy,  I believe Facebook uses any information they gather about where you grew up, went to school, and worked to figure out people you may know.  I agree that it can be unsettling.  One or two of my mortal enemies showed up on my "suggested friends" list.  Luckily, you can have them removed from that list, so you don't see them anymore. 
   
   If you do "friend" someone you don't really want to be friend with, you can pretty much ignore them on Facebook without them even knowing it, by selecting one of their postings that shows up in your feed and requesting to ignore future postings from them.
   
   I noticed that if I read a story on a local newspaper's website, suddendly it shows up as one of my recommendations in an advertistement that list Facebook links.  I don't like that.  Just because I read a story does not mean I endorse it or want to recommend it. 
   
   The whole thing is kind of spooky.

   And therein lies the joy of not using Facebook...  Really, it's the most efficient way to not have to worry about them.

   I dont keep much private data in Facebook. so think wont be much problem even if i lost the data in Facebook

   I do.  Last night I wss reading news on Yahoo and for whatever reason on the right hand side was a list of articles some of MY FRIENDS had recently read.  That is way to invasive for me and I am thinking about deactivating.  Have we gotten to a point where we need to know everything our friends are doing, what they are reading etc.  Sad.

   Not really. I feel like there is nothing they can really find out about me. Other than that I like playing video games.
