Can't read old photos from CD
I've been trying to read some photos that I saved 4 years ago. The pics are saved onto a CD-maxell DVD-R. Now the CD drive does not show up on My Computer, if I put it in my laptop it doesn't recognise and last time it completely messed up my desktop.
CD is looking perfect, no scratches at all.
Can I still get my photos?
Does anyone know or have used a service company that can retrieve files like this in this situation?
Thank you so much!
Dusana :-)
You have mentioned CD player and DVD-R. A cd player may not play a DVD, especially if it is an older computer. You will need to use a CD/DVD player. There is a BIG difference between a CD and a DVD. Check first that you have actually used a DVD and that you are trying to read it in a DVD player. If that is ok:
The cheapest option to try first is to get a cd repair kit, with the cd cleaning liquid and cloth and follow the instructions, even if the cd / dvd does not appear to be damaged.
You could try someone else's computer, especially an older computer, maybe if someone still has windows XP.
Other than that, you will have to go to a data recovery company. That can be expensive. There are a number of data recovery companies around. You might even be able to get the name of a recommended one from the maxell company, seeing as it is their cd that is giving you trouble.

I put about 8500 photos on a dvd, took the dvd out, replaced it and pulled up the photos, made sure they were all there, and then took it out. I deleted all the photos on my pc to free up some space. The next day I needed one of those photos, so I put in the dvd and it looks blank. In the "My...
