If you mean protection from damaging transients, there are various types of surge protection adapters/socket panels which filter out mains borne spikes. These devices incorporate MOVs (Metal Oxide Varistors) to clamp the voltage at a specified level. However they don't provide total protection and won't give any protection against serious surges due to lightning strikes (which can degrade the MOV, or blow it or the entire surge protector to pieces!) All electrical/electronic equipment should be unplugged during a lightning storm!
Static electricity is also a hazard with electronics. If you live in a hot, dry climate or the rooms in your home are very warm and dry and you have carpets, static can be a problem. PVC soles on shoes and wool carpets can produce lots of static and if you touch the pins of the connector on an electronic device while "charged up", this can fry the electronics (been there, done that!)
