   Do you keep laptop on your laps while working?
   
   I have the habit of sitting on the sofa and keep my laptop on my lap while working. Sometimes when I feel the heat, I just keep the laptop on the teapoy or on the sofa itself. Not really sure whether it is Ok to do that.

   You can purchase a laptop tray, to make sure that your clothing does not block any of the cooling ports, which are located underneath most laptops. Then it is OK to work as long as you like.
   
   Some laptops will get very hot quite quickly if you place them directly on your knees as clothing tends to get sucked into the vents and then blocks the air needed to cool the processors. The design of the vents assumes that the laptop will be on a hard flat surface such as a desk or counter top.
   
   The original term for a laptop was portable computer, and at that point we had not envisioned the day when they would be so small and light that you could literally place them on your lap.

   Absolutely not.   There was a news story not long ago where someone left their laptop on their bed.  A fire started and they lost their home. Use a desk, a table, a laptop desk/table.  Not only can you start a fire, but you can also damage your laptop.

   A laptop should ideally be placed on flat surface like a table and preferable raised on a cooling pad. I always keep my laptop on a cooling pad as it helps it run cooler when used for extended periods. However, I guess its fine to use it on your lap once in a while and when doing this try to keep the vents away from your body. It does get hot though, that's why a tablet(android or ipad) is the perfect companion for people like me who like lazing away in bed.

   Yes, it is advisable that you use a Laptop Cooling Pad for the purpose of keeping your laptop temperatures to normal. While keeping the laptop in your laps or on the sofa / desk, the heat doesn't find its way out, and thus the PC gets more hot. The cooling pad lets the heat ventilate, and you find you laptop PC not heating up as much as previously without a pad.

   My husband and I use to own a computer shop. We saw no end of laptops which were fried due to being used on a lap, sofa, bed or the floor. They really should never  have been called laptops.
   
   Often the air vent is on the bottom and this shouldn't be blocked. It will over heat and damage the laptop often beyond repair.
   
   There are, as others have mentioned, laptop trays or even use a table.

   I once read a article about putting your laptop on laps, which stated that it is dangerous to put it on your laps from the health perspective and secondly putting it on a sofa or something where flow of air is blocked is not good for the laptop itself. So, in my opinion you should buy a laptop tray or something that sort which is a win win situation for you and your laptop.

   nope never. Laptops temperature gets hot after 30min. So, I place it on table. never the lap

    I don't keep laptop on my lap while working because the radiations emitted by it can cause damage to the body. Moreover, it is likely to get heated up because the cooling vents get mostly blocked, when laptop is kept on the lap. It is advisable to use laptop cooling pad if it is kept on the lap for extended periods so as to avoid it from getting heated.
    
    I always work on desktop when at home. But, whenever I work on laptop, I prefer to keep it on a table or a suitable place instead of keeping it on the lap.
