I am completely clueless when  it comes to computer shopping. My laptop of 3 years just met the end of its road so it is now time.

All i need is something (with a keyboard) that will be used for mainly heavy internet activity. I will need  microsoft  word, excel, etc.

I would like a great virus protection program to come with it (are there any for free?).

The brand is irrelevant what you should look for is specifications.
      - Processor:  2Hz is good; Dual core is better
      - Memory: more than 2G; 4 is better
      - Hard Drive 250G or more

In case you are shopping brands:-

      *Lenovo
      *HP
      *Acer
      *Samsung
      *Dell
      *Sony

Usually a computer comes with trial versions of software but you can have yours updated to the full versions and pay the extra.

Microsoft security essential is free and designed specifically to protect MS OS. You may choose other virus protection such as McAfee,  Norton, Bitdefender, MalwareBytes. These are among the best out there.

The ASUS line of laptops are very good. Do some research by typing 'best laptop reviews' in a search engine and keep reading till you find what you're looking for... smile
