Anybody played around with the standard blogger templates recently? You can effectively now layout your page however you want. You can change the width of columns, all sorts of stuff.

I have just picked myself up an awesome domain name, and I am having a bit of fun smile

I can seriously recommend heading over and seeing what you can create!

Thanks Ryan. I have at times used blogger, but didn't care for the format. Sounds like the new changes you mention make it worth working with again.

I stopped using it completely, because of the frustration around templates. You can effectively now create your own template, which is a godsend for those of us with limited techy knowledge!

Wow, and it is so easy to use! I love it. Again, thanks for posting this.

I really like the way you can pick a template and then adjust almost all of the colors to ones of your own choice. I like the way you can move the gadgets into a right or left sided column now. Not quite managed to figure out if I can change the images on the background yet if I want to.

It is good that you are also able to add additional pages to the blog on there now.

Blogger is a lot batter now with a simple tool that allows you to fix column naumber, width, color, font, add pages--very simple and flexible!  Unfortunately many of my older blogs are already on html templates that the new system can't work woth sad

Ryankett, thanks for the info.. I love Blogger.. Let me ask you a question, where did you purchase a domain name from?? Google??

Yes through Blogger, with auto renewal. I don't intend to move it anywhere, and their domains are cheap enough.

Oh ok thanks, I think I am going to purchase a domain because my main focus is getting traffic to my blog but it is hard and with my own domain and the right keywords, I just know I will receive traffic.. I will be purchasing one real soon.. smile smile

Yes I like the new template designs that we can apply to our blogs over there and working through a web design course at the moment just to customize it how I want it.

They look a hell of a lot better than the old templates...an update for the new digital age!

If I have a domain name and NOTHING else, is there a way to somehow auto fill in?  LOL.  I've been paying for a domain for years, but have no page for it.  Or do you buy one through them, and it is like,  http/ :  blogger.com/MY DOMAIN sort of thing?

You would just select an available name for example - shadesbreath.blogspot.com and I think you still have an option of adding a domain name to your blog and redirecting through it....

Edit: yeah a custom domain name that you can point to your blog, it's in the publishing settings of your blogger account!!

I left blogger because they don't have any easy way to arrange things in categories. Tags just don't cut it. This is why I like WP.

WryLilt-I totally know what you mean. I'm working with a new third-party template that features a horizontal menu with dropdown menus that can go to as many subcategories or sub sub subcategories as you need it to. It's just a matter of replicating some simple code, and then tagging your posts appropriately. It makes it super-easy to categorize and navigate then.

Irhoner this sounds very interesting.  I've just bought my first domain and I want to switch my old blog over to a new template.  Can I do that?  I played around a little but then I got worried I'd mess everything up! lol

Sounds cool! Although I did have have some kind of category drop down from mygadgetshowcase. However it was complicated and just a small change made it difficult to work with.

I had just learned how to redesign the templates on blogger, make several columns and such, when they came out with the new design set up.  I think it is great that they simplified the process, and that the old templates are still available, to those who want them.
