Security Cameras - Fake Security Cameras

Which to choose?

Looking at the prices of both solutions it is frequent to see people choosing the fake security cameras believing it will give the same deterrent effect as the real ones.

Even though it is true that some times security systems are not recording and in those cases a fake camera would be enough.

The problem happens when the need for images of the crime are needed by the investigation. That´s when a good and effective video surveillance system comes in handy.

Nowadays the use of video surveillance systems it is increasingly gaining importance, both in public places, companies and private homes.

The installation of such systems allows an increase of security and protection of the assets. No doubt the deterrent effect caused by this kind of equipment it is also very important.

In most cases security systems are designed to prevent violent acts and discourage violent criminals from performing acts of theft, vandalism or terrorism. It is never too much to emphasize that if the system has been designed to meet this goal, very little is accomplished if you do not have a recording system working properly.

With digital technology applied to video-surveillance systems the search for the images is done in a fast, direct and efficient way.

The computer it is the most important tool which allows a system like this to work, recording the images and giving numerous features which will make your security camera a much more powerful weapon against crime.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV)

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) is the use of video cameras to transmit a signal to a specific place where it can be viewed on a limited set of monitors. It differs from broadcast television in which the signal is not openly transmitted.

Closed-circuit television cameras are designed to be small, easily hidden and able to operate unattended.

Webcams can also be considered a type of CCTV camera.

CCTV is often used for surveillance in areas that may need monitoring such as banks, casinos, airports, military installations, and convenience stores.

A more advanced form of CCTV using Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) provides recording for possibly many years, with a variety of quality and performance options and extra features (such as motion-detection and night vision).

Surveillance of the public using CCTV is particularly common in the UK where there are reportedly more cameras per person than in any other country in the world.

The debate about security versus privacy it is being hold all over the world and conclutions will result on better legislations.

IP Security Cameras

The monitoring system via the communications protocol IP (Internet protocol) breaks the barriers of traditional video surveillance.

The fact that the system is based on cameras with a web server on the inside allows the connection to any central control system governed by a camera, independently, which can be directly visualized through the telephone line or Internet.

The IP cameras allow you to view the images directly using a network / Internet. Just connect the cameras to the IP network and is ready to access on any part of your network / Internet.

This systems can be very simple and alow very good level of security even when you are far away from the place where it is mounted. You just need an internet connection to have access to your own surveillance system.

I had a security camera system installed at my place of work a few years ago now, in use it was very difficult to get a good enough definition of the intruders to be able to prosecute but I am sure that it worked very well as a deterrent for many of the less persistent offenders.

Hi Brian, thanks for sharing your experience with security cameras. The deterrent factor it´s always there but if you choose a real security camera them you might go for a good one in order to get high quality images.
