Sort Pictures in an Excel List

If you are using pictures in your Excel spreadsheet you may be having some difficulty with sorting the pictures along with the other data in the list.

The good news is that you can sort pictures in an Excel list just like you would sort text and numbers. However there are some settings you need to make sure are set before you go sorting that list.

Let’s look at sorting the list below from largest to smallest (descending) by the sales column.

Sort Pictures in Excel

Firstly you need to ensure that the pictures are completely inside the cells. If they touch any of the borders of the cells they will not sort with the list. Change the size of the pictures and the height and width of the cells as necessary.

The next step is to make the pictures move with the other cells when you sort the list.

  1. Right mouse click on the picture and select Size and Properties
  2. Click the Properties tab
  3. Select either the Move and size with cells or Move but don’t size with cells option
  4. Click Ok

The pictures will now be sorted with the other data in the list.
