Best Rated Laptop Computers for 2013
Now that I've written a complete hub on the best gaming laptops under $1000, I thought it would be a good idea to also look at the top 10 best rated laptops of 2012. Because not everyone is looking for the same type of laptop I've decided it would be most efficient to break down this list into the following categories: performance laptops, student laptops, and netbooks/notebooks.
Best Rated Performance Laptops
Apple Macbook Pro
Most Mac users understand what they are getting into before they purchase their laptop. A Mac is durable and made of quality parts, but in general a little more expensive then their PC counterparts. Mac's have been criticized for not having enough performance for the overall cost associated with their machines; however, the Macbook Pro certainly breaks the mold.
The Macbook pro has a precision aluminum unibody that holds a 2.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor inside to run even your most intense programs and multitasking. It also features 4 GB of DDR3 ram run at 1333mhz (supports up to 8GB), a 500 GB HDD, Intel HD Graphics 30005 and AMD Radeon HD 6490M with automatic graphics switching, and a HD facetime camera. If you still need more performance out of your Mac, then consider the MC723LL/A which features a heftier video card and hard drive.
ASUS N53SV-XE1 Laptop Computer
Ask any gamer, Asus makes incredible performance laptops at a fraction of the cost of many other laptop manufacturers. With the N53SV-XE1 you get a 2.0GHZ quad-core Intel i7 processor which when more performance is necessary will use Intel's turbo boost technology to reach speeds up to 2.8GHz. It also includes a dedicated graphics card with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M. Other features include 4GB DDR3 ram (up to 16), 500 GB HD (7200 rpm), an LED backlight screen, and even a USB 3.0 port for blazing fast data transfer. Overall most performance users will be more than satisfied with the N53SV-XE1 which will allow you to run almost any software or games you can throw at it. If you need additional performance, then consider purchasing additional ram. I recommend you start with a 4GB stick (204-Pin) to allow you to maximize your laptop's potential. A 1 year accidental and parts and labor warranty is also included.
SAMSUNG Series 9 900X3A-A03
Another quality laptop for 2012 is the Samsung Series 9 900X3A-A03 which features a 128GB solid state drive for quick boot up and performance. If you don't know what a solid state drive is or just would like to know more information, then I recommend you take a look at the video in this article on solid state drives to get an idea of what kind of revolutionary technology this truly is.
This laptop incorporates Intel's all new Sandy Bridge technology and is powered by a Intel Core i5-2537M run at 1.4GHz that can boost up to a max turbo frequency of 2.3 GHz when needed. Other features include 4 GB of DDR3 1066 (upgradeable to 8GB), a USB 3.0 Port, an integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 card, 7.7 hour battery life, and a weight of only 2.88 pounds. Another key feature for this laptop computer is Samsung's generous 3 year parts and labor warranty.
Best Budget or Student Laptop PC Computers 2012 - 2013
Toshiba Satellite L655-S5158 - Best Student Laptop
If you are a student and don't have a lot of money, then this inexpensive laptop computer will give you solid performance at right around $479. The inexpensive/budget price coupled with its sleek design and quality parts have made the Toshiba #1 on Amazon's bestseller list for 2012.
You get a decent battery life (around 5 hours), an Intel i3-380 M Processor (2.53Ghz/3MB Cache), 4GB of DDR3 ram, a large 640 GB hard drive for all of your files, and TruBrite LED display that is both attractive and environmentally friendly.
What about Microsoft Office on your laptop?
In general, most laptops simply don't come with Microsoft Office; however, I recommend you go to your student bookstore in order to pick it up. Microsoft does seem to have a heart (when it comes to students) and gives you about 50% off (varies by student bookstore).
Dell Inspiron 14R 1181MRB 14-Inch Laptop
Here's another solid laptop for you to check out, the Dell Inspiron 14R. The performance and price of the 14R are similar when compared to the Toshiba Satellite featured above. It also has a Intel Core i3-380M Processor, 4GB DDR3 Ram, and a slightly smaller 500GB hard drive. The screen is a 14.0” Widescreen HD (1366x768) glossy WLED display with TrueLife Panel.
As I mentioned previously the performance you'll get from these laptops is similar; however, it's hard to pass up the Toshiba which has slightly better hardware and is around $50 cheaper. It may come down to your personal brand preference. I've owned both a Toshiba and Dell laptop and currently use a Dell one which I was able to acquire for a really great price - both have been budget laptops and both have been satisfactory.
Top Rated Netbook Laptops 2012 - 2013
I've written extensively about netbook laptops in the past. In my opinion you really have one of two really great options, the Toshiba NB505-N508BL or the Acer Aspire One. If you're interested in learning more about netbook laptop computers, then check out my hub on the best netbooks of 2012. You can also take a look at this post on the best student laptops.
