Top Ten Best Vintage iPhone Cases
Are you a fan of vintage style?
Just because you are a vintage lover, doesn't mean you have to deprive yourself of modern technology. I'm often looking for ways to add a touch of vintage charm to the technical side of life.
The thing about iPhones is that a case or cover can give you extra peace-of-mind when you are out and about. An iPhone 4 case needs to be practical and protective. That's fine, but look a little further and you may find one that you also love the look of. There are now numerous choices of good quality vintage iPhone cases. But which one to choose?
If you are a vintage fan, you might consider some of these in the top ten list that follows. I have researched many vintage iPhone cases and have picked out the best of those that can offer good protection, great vintage styling and come in at an affordable price. I hope these designs will help you choose the best iPhone 4 or 4S case for you. Here we go...
10: RETRO RADIO iPhone case
This tough, plastic, glossy snap-on case looks just like a 1950s radio. If nostalgia and vintage objects are your thing, this is perfect for your iPhone 4 and 4S. The cost is only $16.99/£11.16. Not bad for a quality hand-printed item. You can buy this through www.etsy.com and it's a one-of-a-kind from onyourcasestore. This store is based in the USA but will also ship internationally.
9: POLKA DOT iPhone case
For me, nothing screams vintage quite like a bit of polka dot. But I have too many polka dot things, I think it might be overkill if I bought this. But maybe I will, you know, just as a spare.
Some of the polka dot cases I've been researching seem to be a bit flimsy and prone to breaking as they come in two snap-on parts. But I found two that look vintage-style classy and seem to offer good protection. The first case has Flex Gel material on the sides which is flexible and offers better grip than the hard plastic cases. Yet it also has a hard, sturdy plastic back protector. This one wins on durability AND price. Believe it or not, some of the more expensive cases seem pretty flimsy compared to this beauty. It always helps to take a glance at the latest reviews on Amazon before you decide.
The second cover I'd whole-heartedly recommend is a flip-cover iPhone case for iPhone 4 and 4S (main picture below). This is my favourite type of iPhone case because it protects your precious little phone front and back. This one has a magnetic clasp which flips down when you want to use your phone.
8: VINTAGE FOR PATRIOTS iPhone case
Nail your colours to the mast with vintage and distressed flags of your chosen country. This is great for those who want a retro look and to show pride their home country. Why not tell everyone which country you think is the best in the world. In case you hadn't noticed, it's Scotland in my case (pardon the pun). I travel a lot but Scotland will always be where my heart belongs.
This snap-on slim-line case for iPhone 4 and 4S is made from plastic silicone and I'm finding it pretty easy to find vintage flags for many countries through simple searching on Amazon and Zazzle.
7: MOCK TORTOISESHELL iPhone case
Nothing screams vintage like a bit of tortoiseshell. So why not fit it onto your phone to roll back the decades. It could even match with your vintage tortoiseshell sunglasses.
I like this one because it looks authentic, classic and sophisticated and not so much like the plastic it is made of.
It is handpainted and slimline, giving access to all ports and buttons and is impact resistant. Really, it's a classy classic case.
6: VINTAGE ART POSTER iPhone case
These hard plastic snap-on Speck cases for iPhone 4 and 4S are a great find at Zazzle. If you like vintage posters you'll have plenty to choose from. I love the style of these Parisian posters and these iPhone cases capture the nostalgia of wonderful hand-painted design. Tournee du Chat Noir (see photo on the right) is one of my all-time favourite posters and this iPhone case reproduces the exact colour scheme of the original poster.
Why not make your own iPhone case design of a vintage image. Yes, it's easy to do. Just upload your image and zazzle will put it on a quality iPhone case and send it out to you. Just go to zazzle.co.uk and follow the instructions to make your own.
5: BAMBOO / WOOD iPhone case
Now, you may have seen this before as it is quite an unusual style of case. The reason for its popularity I think lies in its looks. Most cases are made of tough plastic, yet in some cases (pardon the pun, again) the plastic is not so tough at all. A wooden case can offer a stylish alternative to modern plastic. This one has a vintage feel to it in the carved designs of the real wood material.
Beware of these cases if you are prone to dropping your phone a lot. With the cheaper versions, these cases can sometimes break easily and the wood shatter. They also come in two parts which slide on and click together which can loosen up over time. Even though these cases could break they work very well to protect your phone in a stylish, natural looking way. Just don't throw your phone around a lot. Even if the case does break, according to reviews, it appears to be protective of the phone itself. Better to have a broken case than a broken phone. The design on the cases is so beautiful that for looks and protection it is an acceptable balance.
4: A BOOK OR A PHONE? iPhone case
Is it an iPhone 4 case or is it a book? Let your friends guess for a little while. This quirky little vintage iPhone case is a clever way to celebrate a love of old books. It can double up as a mini-wallet for essential items such as cards, receipts and a little money.
It's also a mini disguise for your modern technology giving you a chance to be discreet with your phone if need be. All ports and buttons appear to be accessible and the real leather design is very protective as well as tactile. I love this little quirky, yet practical design.
3: CLASSIC MOVIE STAR iPhone case
How about celebrating your favourite classic movie icon with a sumptuous studio shot protecting the back of your phone? How about Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn?
This is a snap-on case for iPhone 4 and 4S. It has clear plastic protecting the edges of your phone and the photo image covers the back of the iPhone. All buttons and ports are accessible. Everyone will want to know where you got your iPhone case from.
2: VINTAGE CAMERA iPhone case
VINTAGE CAMERA iPhone case
This is another amazing iPhone 4 or 4S snap-on cover from onyourcase store on www.etsy.com. This is such a realistic image of a vintage twin reflex camera (see image above) you will definitely create some interest every time you take a photo on your iPhone. The perfectly quirky vintage look for your iPhone 4. I love it. Once again, the cost is only $16.99/£11.16.
I'd like a drumroll for this please. Ok, that's not going to happen anytime soon. So I'll just say ta-daaa here's number one......
1: LEATHER STYLE iPhone case
I used a similar iPhone cover that lasted over three years on my 3G iPhone and I loved it. The leather-style case does it all for me. You have protection front and back, durability, a flip cover and a vintage-inspired look that transforms your iPhone into a classy and practical accessory. The price is right too. Come on down.
Does this look great? Yes. Does this have the best protection and cover for your phone? Yes. Do I have a fetish for red leather? eek, maybe.
There's even space for other things that have nothing to do with your phone but you may need to carry, like cards, tickets, fluff, passes, a little money. No need to take the cover off to charge, access to buttons and ports and a scratch-proof interior lining. Suitable for both men and women. It comes in other colours too: black; brown and hot pink!
What's your favourite? I'd love to know.
And don't forget, screen protectors are always a good idea for your iPhone to protect from scuffs and scratches. It's a bestseller product on Amazon.
