The Federal Highway Act of 1921 started the infrastructure needed to create the roads people would need to drive these new cars. Car production at this time and going forward could not have increased significantly if there were not proper roads to drive the cars on. There were many new car companies formed during this period. Quite a few of them went bankrupt at the end of the era when the great depression came.
