Seat Belts

They further help reduce trauma by focusing the impact on the upper torso of the body, which is much stronger than the individual areas that would otherwise be compressed against the windshield or dashboard. Seatbelts give slightly upon impact, further reducing the stress to the body. The overall effect is that the impact to the body of being held in place by the seatbelt is much less than if the body was to slam against much harder surfaces. Seatbelts also greatly reduce the chance of a person being thrown from the vehicle, which is extremely dangerous.
