The use of the computer based fuel injection systems instead of a carburetor has helped to both reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency. The use of alternative fuels promises to play a large role in both emissions control and fuel efficiency going forward. The popularity of hybrid and all electric vehicles is an example of technology that has already started to have a major impact on overall emissions and fuel efficiency.
