While early versions of electric cars have been praised for their impact on the environment the truth is not many people wanted to drive these cars. They were mostly small, powerless vehicles that couldn’t go very far without needing a charge. Electric cars have evolved though and the perception is changing. In December 2010 the Nissan Leaf became the first electric car from a major manufacturer intended for the general public. There are other signs as well. Silicon Valley based Tesla Motors is putting out electric vehicles that are challenging many of the old stereotypes. Fans of electric cars should be encouraged.
