One of the earliest and most famous types of narrative poetry is the epic poem. The classic epics, The Iliad and The Odyssey by Homer are among the earliest and best examples of the form. Other classic works of narrative poetry include Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, Paradise Lost by John Milton, and The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe. A modern day example of narrative poetry can be found in the ballads that often tell a story in the form of a song.
