The Italian artist, Giotto, who was from Florence, was one of the first artists credited with painting in this style; though he did so before the Renaissance period technically began. The legendary Leonardo da Vinci was one of the key figures of Renaissance art. His groundbreaking use of light and perspective would become, for many, the identifying qualities of the time. Da Vinci, who was also a scientist and architect, became known as the classic “Renaissance Man.” Another significant figure of Renaissance art was Michelangelo, who is best known for his immortal work in the Sistine Chapel.
