Quantitative analysis asks and answers the questions of how much of the materials are present. The latest analytical techniques allow hundreds of different components to be identified from even a small sample. It also allows for the observation of even the smallest of particles. One of the earliest tools for analysis, flame emissive spectrometry, was developed by Robert Bunsen, who is perhaps better known for his Bunsen burner invention. Modern applications include analysis of forensic science as well as pharmaceuticals and foods. Advances in analytical chemistry have also led to advances in research in related areas such as genetics.
