Chromatography
The process of chromatography is used to isolate and analyze mixtures of various types. Chromatography is noteworthy because it is such a complex process that can separate components that are nearly identical in composition. There are different chromatography types available. Paper, gas, and liquid are among the most common. Paper is … Keep Reading → considered the most basic of the methods. A sample is placed on paper and a solvent is introduced that will show whether or not the sample is a mixed component. Gas and liquid are more involved processes that are able to break down the components in exacting detail. Gas and liquid chromatography along with mass spectrometry are used for such diverse purposes as drug testing and criminal forensics. These techniques and equipment are used at the Olympics, at airports, and by a variety of police and law enforcement personnel.
