Selecting a College
For most high school students, the time to select a college is both scary and thrilling. There is the pressure of wanting to get into the school of your choice, but also the excitement of dreaming about the possibilities. The process of selecting a college should start no later than the junior year. Students should be compiling lists of schools … Keep Reading → to look at. The local library as well as the bookstore will have plenty of books that describe the different schools. Some of the books offer comments from current students that tell what it is really like to attend the school. Select a couple of “safe” schools that you are likely to be accepted to and a couple of “reach” schools that will be tough. When you have your choices narrowed down to a few, try to visit the schools. Nothing can replace the experience of walking around a campus. You will get a feel for each school. Some will feel “right.” Some won’t. Hopefully, one will feel perfect. Try to sit in on a class if the college will allow.
