This usually involves offering courses that teach about the existence of different religions, but does not in any way attempt to promote any type of religion or philosophy. This method of teaching religion is based on the notion that an educated person will want and need to know the history and characteristics of different religions. Religion is taught in the context of history, philosophy, and sociology. It is taught to provide knowledge, not to encourage or discourage any particular beliefs.
