Because of the difficulty in growing food as well as the lack of fresh drinking water, much of the population is undernourished. The Sahara desert, which separates North and South Africa, is one of several large deserts that make transportation difficult in Africa. The world’s longest river, the Nile, goes through Africa, as does the Niger, which is also among the biggest rivers in the world.
